The dude has been doing this HIS WHOLE LIFE. It's very naive of you gummies to suggest he's not in good shape.

As for injuries, any real racer has been knocked at some point. broken a bone or ridden over.. Mikes had like what two injuries his entire career? Guess I'm like the 00.001% percent of people who still ride after injury.. Ow no, wait. Every rider does!!
He needs to do what RV does so well. The announcers even talked about it last night. He needs to learn to ride WITHOUT emotion. Sadly, I don't think he is able to. Riding with/without emotion is part of a person's personality and therefore, not likely to change.
He could work on it though. His inability in the whoops is also not related to how many crunches he does or does not do. It is a mental thing. Not sure what has him messed up in those but he really needs to figure that out if he wants to return to the podium.
Still, a very talented rider and is working his butt off out there. He wants it and he is doing most things correctly. Amazing what a difference tiny things can make at the top level of this sport.
Injuries to quit over? I've torn both ACLs and shredded the ligaments and tendons in both ankles. Broken both wrists at the same time shorting a double, a concussion, cracked sternum and separated shoulder and I still ride. At 49 years old. So perhaps having more facts before you pipe off would do you well. As for you, knobstroker101, pehaps you could go engage in self gratification in front of a full length mirrior. Because your post shows that's what your style is, and the outcome would be the same.
Alessi is indeed a 4-7 placed guy, anyone who thought the Katoom held him back last year has to be kidding too,I think he will be the same,if not a notch down next season,he'd get eaten alive if he tried his hand in Europe again too,I quite like the guy but I think his best days are over and when that starts happening, the frustration starts to set in

Also, Gossiler (sp) said Mike really doesn't know how to set up a bike: he just hops on and hauls ass. That may have worked well in the past, but in today's generation, especially in the 450 class, bike set up (suspension) seems to be absolutely crucial in order to run at the top. If a rider doesn't have the knowledge to diagnosis the issues of his bike, or ability express it clearly to his or her mechanic, so they can make adjustment, it can severely hold them back. Maybe back in the day the best rider could win on a very poor set up, but with the level of progression the sport is currently at, it takes both a talented rider and a dialed set up.
