Ok guys got a question im in a situation haha. About 2 months ago I was guna pick up a 2011 KX. But, I decided to wait till 12's came out. Now lets just say through my dealer I can get a 2011 YZ250F for 5500 OTD final everything. Or I can get a 12 Kawi for 6100 OTD. What would you choose and why?

Im only leaning towards kawi because of contingency money with Pro-Am Schedule were doing. With yamaha regardless what people say there the most reliable and I can work on a carb. I cant work or trouble shoot EFI if something is acting wrong. Not to mention people keep complaining there TPS are breaking.

So whats the better bet here?

If you're fast you go where the money is, think contingency.

Also look at resale in your area.

They are both good bikes.

I would make sure that 6100 OTD for that 12 kx250f isnt really base price. if its OTD 61 that is a bangin deal

Your right thats why i was leaning towards the kawi that contingency helps a ton.. I just wana avoid problems efi just seems like another thing that can break... But all bikes break soo

And yes sir thats final price talked to them today they help me out alot.. My deals always been like 300-400 under dealer cost or something? They pay like 64-6500 (i believe i could be wrong dont quote that)

I will say I had a 2011 kawi and had multiple problems with the throttle positioning sensor and other electrical issues. But when the damn thing ran I liked it a lot more than my buddies Yamaha I rode, way better in the corners. If it is the same front brake as 2011 you are gonna need a over sized rotor/caliper, stock is an absolute P.O.S.

I've ridden both a KX250F 2011 and a YZ250F 2010. I prefer the Yamahas handling and suspension over the Kawasaki who has a better engine. I think the Yamaha corners much better than the Kawasaki.

There is a TPS bracket recall on the 2011 Kawi 250f, and you're right in saying the Yamaha is more reliable. Just about everything they make has zero reliability issues. But if you're fast enough to cash in on contingency $$, that's hard to turn down.

I would go with the yamaha 100% i was in the same choice but with a 2010 250f for a little cheaper than that otd and i did all my pro ams over the beggining of the year and i loved my bike i have a deal with FMF and put a pipe on it and havent had any bog at all once i turned the idle up. the only thing is if your going to rely on power as your speed the yamaha isnt the fastest bike out there i am borrowing a friends bike for my first pro race this weekend and he had CV4 do his motor just the top end head mod carb mod and then cams and high compresion pistion and i test rode it last night to get a little time on it before i leave today and it rips compaired to mine and all mine has on it is race hours no practice but its a great bike to buy and yamaha has very good money to. the kawis are fast but seem like they are always falling apart and just cheaply made just my 2 cents.

back to the contingency if your doing pro ams and are fast enough for contingency dont worry about it every pro am i went to paid very well they have a garrentee 3000$ pay out but normally when theres a full gate they will throw in alot of extra money

Who would of figured a guy with the name of Yamaha Mark would say go with the yamaha. Also their is no TPS bracket recall on the KX. We've had our 11 kx for a year now with no TPS problems. We also have a 10 kx that we haven't had to do anything to. I think both are great bikes. We are looking at getting a 2012 and i have cosidered the yami and kawi but the bog on the yamaha so many people talk about scares me a bit. $6,100 for the kx is a hell of a price. If i could get that here i'd already have it in my garage.

Everyone is making great points thats why this is so hard haha. I no at least 3-4 people that have the TPS issues, but again that doesnt mean anything everyone and every bike is different.

I do no the yamaha's arent exactly to fast but there will be a few mod parts on there to help a little so thats not an issue to me. Yami contingency might be decent but it sucks that its just yama bucks, I personally dont really care to have yama bucks.

Im guna make a pro's and con's table today and decide this weekend hopefully haha

Go blue and let Jesse play with it. Best of both worlds and it will be a rocketship and reliable. Im still holeshottin 450s on my 06 williams bike.

Remember the second you plop down the $$ the 2011 it instantly becomes a 1 year old bike as far as resale is concerned.

That is a good point lumpy.. Heres what im looking at..

So far alot of people (not only on here) have had some problems with the kawi.. But with there contingency being so good its almost as if i have problems that money is just goin to be used to fix it.. But if i dont have TPS problems im golden i get motor work dont cheap so as far as a crank n piston going alot doesnt bother me.. Valves yes bother me haha

I just no the yami is reliable an i no how to work on it.. But it is already a year old and still carb??

Dam*** someone just say buy this or that bike hahaha

If your worried about the TPS, just keep a spare. You know as long as you have a spare you won't need it. Only parts that break are the ones I don't keep and noone has one in stock.

I remember my son racing a YZ125, everyone was breaking the cluth rods, everyone said to keep a spare. I ordered one when we got the bike and put it in the tool box, two years of schoolboy it never broke.
