What are your golden nuggets?

Here are some of mine:

Treat others as you'd like them to treat you.

If it seems too good to be true, it is.

Never, ever, ever give up.

Don't put your hand where you wouldn't put your pecker.

It's a thing good to remember while working around machinery.

I was once told, and have never forgotten, that the true character of a man (read: person) is measured by what he does for those who can do nothing for him in return.

My grandparents owned businesses all their life and so do I. It can be very stressful at times. Days before my Grandma died she asked me how I was doing. I told her the truth because she knew I was having a rough time. She told me that you do what you can do and that is all you can do! That is a good one to remember when things are stressful because when you eliminate all the worries that is what it all boils down to. It is also a good thing to remember because it is a fact of life that you only worry about the things that are beyond or out of your control. There has been many days where I just reflect back on that advice and instantly feel a burden leave from knowing I done the best I could or all that I could have done.

As Steve Martin once said, "Always carry a trash bag in your car. If it gets full just throw it out of the window".

Don't strip live electrical wires with your teeth.

Of course I was given that advice after the fact.

Mine came from a joke:
A young boy was sitting on a bench eating candy. An elderly man stopped and told the boy that too much candy is bad for your health. The boy told the man that his grandfather lived to be 106 years old. The man asked if he reached that age by eating candy. The boy said "no. He reached that age by minding his own fucking business."

a young boy was walking through town with his grandfather

the grandfather noticed, a couple blocks ahead, that two dogs were going at it
he wondered how he would explain it to his grandson, but hoped they would be done and gone by the time they got there
as they got closer, and closer, he couldn't help but realize he was going to have to address the situation

"son" he said "do you see those two dogs up there?"

"yes, grandpa. why?"

"well, that dog on on top must have hurt it's paws, and it looks like that other dog is trying to help it get across the street by carrying it on it's back"

"really grandpa?"

"best I can tell. it just looks like their having trouble figuring out how to get it done."

"man, that's pretty sad grandpa."

"what do you mean son?"

"well grandpa, i guess it just goes to show you, anytime you try to help someone you end up getting fucked!"

Don't fish in the company lake

Live with someone first before you get married to them ( my mom)

Glove before you love Wink

It's a lot easier to love someone rich than poor (My aunt)

Marriage is a lot harder than divorce (my mom)

and my last but not least...

Treat your kids like adults with respect and they will treat you back with the same (and it's true, I got me some good kids).

Having my brother who was heavily religious , and a sister that was practicing to be a nun....tell me " Run the other way..........this shit is a sham". Best advice I was ever given. It is a business to make money and scare the shit out of people.

My dad had the same advice, and summed it up as, "If you can do something about it, do it. If you can't, don't worry about it."

Another jewel of my dad's: "If you can't find your beer, you probably don't need it."
