Can Honda Buy Out Barcia's Contract?

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 9:35am
I know he's got another year left on the Geico Honda team but come on, that kid belongs on the 450. There's gotta be a way to make it work for him to ride the 450 next year. Or could he possibly ride the 450 for Geico along side Windham???

I would be surprised to see Barcia on a 250 next year . I bet they will work something out , just like they have in the past .

I'm assuming Grant's contract is up at the end of this year? Barcia & Canard would be a fierce 450 team.

My thoughts exactly. I know Geico wants that SX Lites title defended, but really.. who is Honda going to put on that 2nd bike if not Barcia? It's the perfect timing and situation for the kid and the team. They aboslutely need someone to put next to Canard.

If Honda wants Barcia on a 450 for supercross they will find a way to do it.

Grant may be able to win a few motos a year but not two on the same day so if I was Honda I would give Grant the boot and go with Canard and Barcia.

Barcia will be on a 250f for SX, sorry to burst you're bubble but you won't see him on a 450 for awhile, at least until either Bercy, or if he races one at the Monster Energy Cup.

He's under contract boys, as cool as it would sound for him to hop right on the 450, he's got a contract with Geico to uphold, and that's what he's going to do.

The mothership can do what they want. Doesn't mean they will, but that would be a nifty move.

Geico should put Windham out to pasture and put the young buck Barcia on the 450. As much as I like KW, I'd much rather see Barcia on a 450. I can watch KW on old re-runs on ESPN classic if I want to see him ride.

EXACTLY, Barcia belongs on the 450! I have felt for awhile now that if one of the 250 kid's can mount a 450 and get on the podium in the Premier class, either in SX or MX then that's where they belong! AMA needs to implement the rule that if a 250 rider does just that then they just lost their eligibility in the 250 class. Just my humble opinion, bang away...

He should defend his East championship then race 450 full time next year outdoors.

Bacia on 250 (pressure) to perform...............Hanging it out there on a 450 for a few races(no pressure).......I bet when he got the call up it felt like a huge weight off his shoulders. Now he is the man. A month ago he was a disapointment . First half of year was all excuses, now he is 100% ?? .... No disrespect I am a fan my point is the pressure has to be a factor.

I don't think Honda wants to pay two guys number 1 rider pay. Barcia will be on a 250f next yr. If Canard does not stay healhty he will get the boot and Barcia moves in.

Even just from the Geico side, they could let him run 250sx but they need to build him a 450 for the outdoors next year like Metty did. Not that he can't win on the 250, but a podium on the 450 class has to be worth more than in the 250s. The kid can flat out ride a 450.

Why not run the #1 plate in East SX and race a 450 in some West races?

Honestly, it might be a good idea for Geico to let Barcia race the 250 in SX while Windham rides the 450. Then outdoors move Barcia to the 450.

I was going to mention that, but I think Justin should earn some more experience in supercross on the 250 before riding the 450 in the West rounds and risk getting injured. (Not saying he wouldn't do well, just saying he has plenty of time to perform in the 450 class.. Yes I know he won Bercy, respectively). 250 East + 450 Outdoors would be a good deal, besides I think Geico will be set next year outdoors with Tomac, Bogle, and Hahn. I think Barcia is too crazy to be a title contender on the 250f but aggressive enough to be in the mix in the 450s.

I wouldn't be surprised if Honda has something in their support contract with Geico about this, but I'm sure Honda wants that 250F with the #1 plate out there in SX.

I wouldn't be surprised if Barcia's contract was already with Honda, as the PC/Kawasaki deals are reported to be structured. With Honda grabbing Canard up last year in SX, and Barcia this season in MX, it's certainly plausible.

If your Barcia do you really want to move up so soon? Hes still young and I would think he wouldnt want to move out of the 250 class yet. Defend your title and clean up on the bonuses, especially if he nails another championship. Once you fizzle out in the premiere class there's no where else to go but out.

A "Geico" 450 doesn't compare to a Factory Honda 450.

Very easy.. and if he's a solid contender on a 450 after the first few West rounds then maybe he stays on the big bike for all 17 rounds.
