Oct Racer-X and JT Racing

You have to start somewhere and tapping into the roots of what was an empire at one time is a GREAT place to start.
I was getting emails/request for info on my facebook page from dealers around the world wanting to know who, what, when, where, they could get there hands on it and if they could distribute. (not my job however) I do some PR for them, helped with some design stuff and oh yeah...... kept flying the flag was the company was not in business. This is just the begining, they have some cool stuff planned and Im pretty pumped about the whole thing despite it taking a lot longer then i thought it would. (the business side of starting up a company from almost scratch is crazy)

For about the tenth time...

Guys, what you are seeing now from JT are the designs that were done about a year ago and are now making it to market.

Since that time, fairly recently, JT hired David Bailey as their Creative Director. What you will see in the next 12-18 months will be the result of that union.

I haven't seen any of it yet, but I'm pretty familiar with DB's talents as a designer. Should be pretty cool.
Seems odd that they'd go out and poney up big bucks for a 32 page layout to showcase stale year old designs. With silly season in full swing it would seem like a better idea to wait a few months, sign a current rider and have a marketing blitz with new designs for the SX season.

As far as anoyone suggesting that there has been nothing but "puke gear" recently that is just ridiculous. There has been no shortage of relatively clean and traditional color schemes from the major players every year for the last decade. You can have clean good looking gear without having to make it look dated and lame.

You know what's funny, the old JT stuff is better looking than that crap. Nothing better than the stuff Ron Lechein and JMB wore in the 80's, they are going to fail miserably with that stuff guaranteed.

JT gear looks really good and I liked the catalog in the new RacerX, but I don't like the helmets. I understand the throwback style of the gear, but the helmet looks looks like it's still stuck in the 80s.. Doesn't look as sturdy as other helmets. Probably perfect helmet for riding vintage bikes (the style of the helmet), but not for me.

I think it's cool to include all those legends of the sport in the marketing campaign, but I think they will need to hire some young guns active in the sport right now to get it to really takeoff. I'm 29 and I grew up with Fox, AXO, etc.. as main the brands so I don't get the same warm fuzzy feeling looking at the new JT ads as some of the older guys here. For me it's looking at older Fox ads with RC, MC, Reynard, Henry, etc...

It's always good to have more options, especially now that so much of the gear looks like little kids pajamas. I don't even mind the wild prints so much on the pants, but when combined with a matching jersey I think they look horrible. A black or white jersey with some of the print as accent looks much better in my opinion.
The JT gear looks pretty good, but each color has the same red, white, blue, and silver chest logo and that doesn't look right. I know for copyright reasons they can't get away with the branding they used to, and this may kill it for me. Unless they find a way to do a better logo on the chest of the jersey. Also, the logo on the pants is not the same as the logo on the jersey. I like the old school logo better myself, but either way choose one style and run it. I'm pretty sure that back in the day they used to take the stylized JT out of the JT racing usa logo and make it bigger for use on the pants.
I hope they didn't blow their wad on gear that's unfinished looking, because with just a few tweaks it could be awesome.

Riding gear/style is a personal taste, but some of the comment are just ridiculous......." they are going to fail miserably with that stuff guaranteed" or " Like it's just a shell and doesn't look as comfortable or sturdy/safe. Probably perfect helmet for riding vintage bikes, but not for me"

You can tell from a picture a helmet doesnt look safe/sturdy?? You can predict a failure with a product without ever even trying it??? haha You guys should quit your day job and work in the moto industry, you would make millions with that talent.

I guess guys like Bailey and the owners who had tons of business and moto success with other companies should be asking you guys how to run a moto clothing company.

You're right. I don't work in the moto industry. I ride motocross and buy motocross products. Didn't know working in moto industry was a prerequisite for posting my opinion in a motocross forum for motocross fans.

I said I really like the gear, but I don't like the look of the helmet. I guarantee there are others who disagree and love it. That's the way things go within the fashion industry.... but wait, you work in the moto industry so you already knew that.... silly me.

Obviously the helmet is safe or they wouldn't sell it. I was referring to the look/style of the helmet.

Maybe you should listen to the people that are buying the stuff instead of getting defensive.

Not getting defensive, just pointing out that people make stupid comments like...." helmet doesnt look safe/sturdy" or "they are going to fail miserably with that stuff guaranteed". Those arent even opinions, its someone typing something and posting it with no facts, experience or having seen, held, used a product, just ignorant.

"Maybe you should listen to the people that are buying the stuff instead of getting defensive" .....ahhhhh You ARENT buying it, you said "its crap and it will fail"" do you even read your own post? I know how to buy a good looking steak at the deli, but it doesnt mean I know how to cut up the cow. I dont tell the electrician how to wire my house either, or the guy that pumps the septic tank the best way to do it. Point is, when you have experts in these fields, there is a reason why they get paid to do the job. This motocross stuff is your hobby, dont act like you have all the answers or you would be working in the business.

""You're right. I don't work in the moto industry. I ride motocross and buy motocross products. Didn't know working in moto industry was a prerequisite for posting my opinion in a motocross forum for motocross fans""........ Its requirement if you are gonna make a manufacturing/safety statements like " helmet doesnt look safe/sturdy" You even admitted you dont work in the industry so why would feel qualified to make such a statement?

In this day of cyber posting ANYONE can post anything even if they know less than nothing and they declare it as fact. Then they get bowed up when you point out to them they dont know what they are talking about.

Ill be there as a guest of Dave King and with the team USA riders, Stanton, Burnworth, Gibson etc. Im coming over from France after the MXON and want to get hammered shit in a real English pub.

I'm pretty sure by "stuff" he was referencing the fact that we as consumers are the ones buying motocross gear, but you are correct that it probably won't be JT gear. Mr. O'Hannah, I believe you are too close to the issue to look at it objectively. They even give you a shout out on page 29ish of their catalog ad. (Thanks for your service to our country by the way) Ultimately the consumers will decide what sells and what doesn't. I'm not making any judgements on the quality, durability, etc. of this JT gear, but I know that I don't like the way it looks so I'm not going to spend my hard earned money on it. I also felt that the 32 page ad as a whole was a big swing and miss as far as my tastes are concerned, and as I said before I'm a fan of old school motocross.

I'd fookin love to but I actually reside in Carlsbad and cant swing it this year . Should be good times, I already gave Burner the beer talk so he's ready to go. Hitting up the fund raiser this weekend at the Voigt Ranch though !

Plan on being there next year if Dave will loan me a bike. The beer tent there is always epic and there are some good pubs in Hungerford, just up the hill, that should help fullfill your wishes .

You coming out to the Pala national ?
8/23/2011 9:07pm
Cool, yes Ill be at Pala and Ill be staying over at the Burners house during the week, maybe we can get Lynas to buy beer, Ill have the camera ready if that happens in the year of lord 2011!! haha

No worries, I wouldnt be involved if I didnt think it had legs. To close to be objective, No. Perfect example...my last tour in Iraq (5th) I left my cushy office job and volunteered to return.....not because I believed in the mission or wanted to go back but because I wanted to be with my guys. Im able to seperate myself from a situation. My now ex wife wasnt too happy......
I havent seen the ad or the catalog, Ive been on the road for months. (Thanks for the Military props by the way)
Yeah if folks dont like the style, I get that, but let me tell you you, they are doing things like using real leather in the knees and sparing no expense on the products and are hiring some of the best guys in the industry to develop the products. Time will tell.......

i wish i could edit out everything after the first paragraph but i'd suggest maybe you just take some of these comments as "intial responses" to your products appearance.

what these people are saying are a snap reaction to looking over the product line as laid out in the racer x catalog.

this forum gives you a chance to respond to those sentiments but that doesn't mean that snap opinions are not valuable.

maybe consider this forum to be something of a customer base, and this is the initial feedback that the marketplace is giving to the product.

aight?

Got my set yesterday, heres what I reckon.

Construction is similar to No Fear with baggy leg fit probably to accommodate knee braces. The zipper is frikken short, too short and the back too high. No knee pad pockets in the leg and the gay sewn on padding is retro BMX stuff. Buckle is great. They need to try harder imo.

New and old side by side. Originals are a superior fit. Note sewn in knee padding on the new ones.

Original old school version looks better. Bailey will fix it, O'Hannah will tone down the name dropping, and we'll all be happy buyers.

yes the original look so much better, this first 2011 series is not looking good and the product feels really cheap, crappy, specially the jersey and the lame logo they have. DB will take it to a different level. I hope they break even on it though.

I also hope they don't take the name to trash the way they did it with Ed Hardy and Von Dutch, from good names to hoes and white trash uniform. Jersey Shore in JT soon?

Ha ha ha, O'Hannah without name dropping isn't O'Hannah.

That yellow stuff is cool for sure. If it had the old Yamaha logo and bumble bee stripe it would be over the top.

You're obviously too close to this because what I said wasn't that crazy of statement. As a consumer of motocross products, I can have an opinion on the style and look of a helmet. I don't have to be an engineer to look at one of those mini-cooper small cars and say I don't like the style of the car and it doesn't look safe. Because I'm not an engineer, I may be wrong and the car may be the safest car on earth... but as a consumer that's my opinion based off of the appearance of the car. That's all I was basing my opinion on... the appearance of the helmet. And since we're on the internet in a forum and I can't put a helmet on, that's all I have to go on. I don't state it as a fact anywhere in my post.
