TeamGreen asked an interesting question in another thread: how much does someone have to have to be considered rich? Twenty five years ago, one million was considered a lot of money. Now, it's nothing. So what is rich?

A million is nothing?

Granted, it ain't what it used to be.

But...

A million is nothing?

Wow, I need to live in that world.

No matter what it is all relative. If you make 28,000 dollars a year then someone that makes 75,000 a year looks rich. The thing is, the more you have, the more you need. I am by no means rich, but, people that have less may not agree with my opinion.

So, my statement stand, Rich is more than I have.

The Waters guy from the O'Reilly show was in the Hamptons recently just to see how the rich are doing and he runs into Russell Simmons who states that he would like to pay more in taxes and that corporations are evil. Waters points out that Simmons is wearing a hat from the corporation that was sponsoring the event. It was beautiful.

It's way beyond a frame of mind.

It's a delusion.

Money doesn't exist.

It was invented by people who don't produce anything worth trading for, so they could take advantage of those that actually do.

It's funny that the greedy bastards call accumulating money "trading."

On paper my monetary worth is shit, but waking up every morning in a warm bed, with a woman who loves me, and a couple of wonderful kids down the hall that I'm able to support and help shape into honest people makes me feel like I'm one wealthy motherfucker.

Not to mention all the good friends I've made over the years...

Have I told you lately how much I love you, Jim? Cool

Being able to pay your mortgage, insurance policys, auto payments, put money into retirement, put money away for kids college education, own a decent portfolio of stocks etc, owning a plane or a boat/dunebuggy/gaggle of motorcycles, motorhome, enough to keep a girlfriend on the side and enough left to travel every year and eat at resturants without a drive up window Wink . AND not have it all on plastic. Thats rich from my perspective.

Rich is living in a gated community. Rich is not worrying about the current price of gasoline. Rich is sending your kids to private school. Rich is being able to comforatably afford that which the average person cannot. All the above is just barely rich however. Then we have really rich, uber rich and filthy stinkin rich. Each of those thinks of those a rung below as paupers.

Mr.G. I caught part of that ORielly piece. I think the dudes hat advertised a private jet company . The same company sponsoring the event.

The man that comes home to a wonderful wife and beautiful children who are happy to see their dad. That's what being rich is...I did not discover this until my wife left me.

I'd rather forget Warrant, but I'll always remember meeting you and your lovely wife in my driveway.

I hope that piece of shit drum kit I gave you inspired you to get back to exploring your potential as an artist.

I'm still looking for a chronologically viable drummer for "POOF".

"Chronologically Viable"? Is that an age thing?
OK I have a Warrant story. Back, back, way back in the day I went to see them with some friends in San Diego and this girl in our group said she would get us back stage. Sure, OK. After the show she comes up and says, "Lets go" and we proceed back stage. Not sure what she did to accomplish this but we go back, meet their manager and he shuffles the guys out to meet us. They were pretty cool about it.
And hey I still have that thing. Works fine still. Thanks again.

Yes, it is.

I've been trying to put a band together that actually has something to say.

"POOF!" stands for Pissed Off Old Fuckers.

I've been hitting up everyone that I ever jammed with, and so far it's just me and one other guy that will commit to fucking with the status quo.

Buncha fuckin' pussies I tell ya!

Think about it.

POOF!

I have some friends who are in their late 20s, no kids, both work and each makes between 100-150k. They don't consider themselves rich at all because they live in downtown dallas where making $250k a year is nothing. So much so that they want to wait to have kids until after they've saved up enough money, whatever "enough" means.

Like someone said, its all relative.

If you have no debt, and 10 times your annual income in the bank....you're rich. Doesn't matter if you make $20K/year and have $200K in the bank...or if you make $200k/year and have $2M in the bank.

Hey at least they were better than Poison.
One thing I don't miss from the 80's is that I used to used so much hairspray on my palm tree of a hairdo, I could stand in the shower for two minutes before the water even reached my skull!

My bud works as the service manager for a high end sports car company out here in San Diego - 200K wouldn't be enough to put down as a deposit on that thing.

They recently sold one with a Carbon Fiber body - first one off the line with that body - $3.5 mil.

Have to respond to this piece...I wanna be a hanger on...

I've got zero talent. Couldn't hit a G with a hand grenade...but, you need someone to stand out side the door and tell dudes that there are a lot of girlfriends in that room...I wish I could play worth a piss. I'd sign up in a heart beat.

As far as the thread goes, Titan has an interesting and quantifiable analysis. Other than that, it's interesting to me to read the responses knowing the little bit I know about each of the pos(t)ers. Smile

Finally, my personal goal has always been to be "set." To be able to pay my bills by saying "welcome to Wal-Mart." To have decent/reliable transportation. To have a nice house. If I want, a bike or two. I don't have to keep up with anyone. I like what I like and want what I want. I don't care about what "you" have.

I see people buying things they they won't use and dump (moneywise) when they are done with it. They don't have to think about what they are doing and don't sweat it when they are done with it. I've seen some people with some pretty good money that were never happy. i'd never consider them rich.
