Hey does anyone remember this guy? I know he went back to europe, but while he was in the states he had a few good rides. He rode for factory KTM on 125 and he also rode the 450, before moving over to factory connection in the 125/250 class.

IMO he was one of the most underrated 450 riders. Being a member of the 450 class during RC's reign was tough on everyone, but outdoors he was always near the top 5. What hindered him the most was his bike at least at KTM. It seemed like half of the motos he raced ended with him pushing the bike off of the track. Shortly after moving to factory connection a string of injuries hit him and then he kind of just disappeared. I do remember him riding in the MXoN a few years back, but does anyone know more?

I don't know anything current about him....

Wasn't his nickname J-Rod?

I used to cheer for him... always liked seeing him do well.

Met him at the US Open years back - the one where RC had his first race on the Suzuki.

Who was the hispanic rider murdered a couple years ago? Went back to Mexico hanging with his buddies and got caught up in cartel gang violence.

The racer murdered was Rene Reyes, in 2008,
Dont think he was involved in any cartel,he raced a SX in Mexico, and decided to stay one more night, but a gang broke into the house he was staying at and killed everyone inside, im thinking it was mistaken identity.

Joaquim Rodrigues is from Spain and raced the MXGPs before coming over.
As far as where he is now, dont know.

My pal Joan Cros (Spain Factory Honda) just raced a SX in Portugal last week. J-Rod designed the track and won the race easy.

No we knew Oscar and his family quite well down here, and the circumstances with his death.

J-Rod was the rider who crashed with Jason Ciarletta at San Diego SX a couple years ago.

I remember his riding the wheels off his KTM at Southwick one year and he was running near the front when he took a trip over the bars. I had been noticing him for a few races prior to that wondering if he was going to get picked up.

That's good oldschool that you remembered that, I remember when they shot Oscar Diaz also. he was from my neck of the woods.

he didn't race any mxgp after returning from usa.......
his father owns a motoshop, motogarrano, was a long time and multichampion honda team, rui gonçalves also raced for him, but after lack of support from honda changed to aprilia for one year and then quited
he tried to get an aprilia spot in the mxgp but didn't get it,so he joined a honda team for the portuguese sx champoinship and won it, then raced the german sx series where he did good on a local honda team.
2011 he is the main favorite to defend his national sx title about to start (23/7) and has won a preparation race......

Riley,

You're wrong JRod did some GP's with the Sarholz racing team but injured himself pretty badly on his back
He's still riding in Portugal trying to improve the Championship and always rides in Germany during the winter for the German Supercross Championship.

I remember Joaquim very well; super nice guy and very friendly - hads lots of determination too! I think it was just a combination of injuries that slowed his career. I miss seeing him at the races. Like some of the guys said; I believe he still races in Portugal.

JRod will be riding again the Supercross Championship in Portugal
Take a look at his latest video and enjoy...
