9/20/2009 8:33 AM From Vurb moto...
Unfortunately while here at the Dade City round of the Gold Cup Series, we had a report from Guatemala that Oscar Diaz was shot and killed after competing in a motocross event. The rest of his party were also shot, when the attackers tailed after the race before running them off the road. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, and we hope that all the other injured people recover quickly. RIP Oscar Diaz |

9/20/2009 8:47 AM I am at Bithlo where Oscar's bikes are, I guess he was expected to fly in and race, but the above from Vurb is correct. Basically they were tailed, stopped and executed.
and by the way, just so I'm clear, are we blaming Obama on this or not?

9/20/2009 8:49 AM Sorry if this sounds disrespectful but who is Oscar and what was all the shooting about. Is Guatemala just a violent place? I guess I'm a dumba$$ about all of this.

9/20/2009 8:53 AM WOW. That's horrible. Oscar was an up and coming amateur rider. Last I heard he was in the A class but I hadn't seen much of him this year. RIP Oscar Diaz.

9/20/2009 9:14 AM Tragic news and so sorry to hear this. Met them at Skytop in Bushnell and had a nice day with them a few month's back. The Diaz family are great people and Oscar possibly had a bright future ahead. Hopefully, no other family members lost there life. Will say a prayer for all those involved.

He was a nice kid and everyone who knew him is pretty upset, as you could imagine and by the way, just so I'm clear, are we blaming Obama on this or not?

9/20/2009 12:02 PM This is about as fucked up as it could possibly get. I'm just sitting here in "Are u fucking kidding me" mode. The shittier part is I guarantee nobody will pay for this crime, EVER!! I mean come on,How much purse money could the kid have from a Guatemala race. Maybe $1000 ,If even that much. This is sickening. RIP Oscar and all my prayers and my families prayers will be for his family. What the fuck has this world come to? Sorry about all the cussing but I can't help it when it comes to talking about this.

9/20/2009 11:47 AM So very sorry to hear of this tragedy! They were such nice people and I just keep thinking of them at the regional qualifier in 07 at Bremen! They loved Kevin enjoyed racing with him. Oscar will be greatly missed! His family and friends and the others who were injured are in our thoughts and prayers! I hope that whoever did this is brought to justice soon!

9/20/2009 12:21 PM This is horrible. I am so sorry to hear of this and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. We hear about these things happening, but when it happens to someone you know it is unbelievable. My husband used to work on a car race team and when they went to a race in another country, all the teams met at the border, travelled in large caravans and were surrounded by escorts as they traveled. I thought that was kinda silly, but I guesss not!
Rest in Peace Oscar Diaz, Cole's dad will look after you now. Barbara Boutwell Utter |

9/20/2009 1:35 PM No, it's usually cash, especially overseas races where promoters can be notorious sharks...you never take a check
My understanding is Oscar also got a large amount for show money, so it is not unreasonable to think he had a couple thousand dollars on him. and by the way, just so I'm clear, are we blaming Obama on this or not?

9/20/2009 2:10 PM I don't know why they keep traveling to Guatemala or Mexico to race (even though I'm from Costa Rica, that kind of shit just doesn't happen here), Oscar was a great guy, raced with him on 80's here. It's so sad to hear this, but I guess it's God's will to have a great one by his side.
