Maybe mx sports will start offering classes for every age in 6 month increments how that be for you? . Come on man really???

They don't have a class at Lorettas that i can win. I demand a new class, one with only riders slower then me.

Eitherways.. its cool he's still racing. I find it interesting to see which pros keep riding and which ones sack it in.. wonder which pros out of the current crop will keep riding late into their 30s and which ones will stop with the pay cheques?

Usually I am in the feeling that past pro's at LL's should be able to race like anyone else........but maybe the best thing would be to have a vet pro class for anyone who ever held a pro license ...........................and then get rid of the B/C 30+ and make it straight 30+. All the vet classes would then be anyone and anything goes like it should be except for the small percent of guys who used to do it for a living.

........of course the problem is what class do you eliminate to make room ...............and how many past pro's will want to race once the gate is made up of only guys like themselves.

I noticed Ryan Hughes had qualified in the 35+ at LL's. Wasn't it last year that he rode the Glen Helen GP? That would only make him legal in the Pro Sport class. MX Sports rules below:
The following riders may enter the Open Pro Sport class only:

a. Riders earning 25 or less AMA Pro Racing Motocross points in either the current or previous year; and

b. Riders qualifying for an FIM MX1, MX2, MX3 Grand Prix event in the previous year.
I looked up the confirmed rider list for the 2010 Glen Helen GP... I thought(RH) he had been off a couple of years, atleast, maybe more... He would know, don't you think?... LL is a pretty tightly run race... , it is sometimes neccessary and expensive to qualify for multiple classes just to ride 2, hopefully... He would know if he is elegible... Nobody that goes tries to slip anything by them, you'll get caught...

They let 7 year olds race the 4-6 class at that event.
there is someone every year... if your kid can't win he/she can't win... I had 2 different 4-6 year olds there at different times and there was always some 50 dad crying about age... I was a 50 dad twice we didn't win LL on 50s but we ended up winning 8 motos out of 19 moto tries and ended up with 2 podiums and 3 overalls... LL is a National level event... there are several international racers... Earnesto Fonseca was only one of them... There are a few ex-pros every year some would get beat.... It is pretty hard to make it... Everything is prepaid, RV slots with water and electric are by lottery and prepaid... Hope to get one... 15,000 to 20,000 people are there... The best up and comers only, 42 on every gate, runs like clock work, there is not another like it, including the Walton in Canada... Been there too... It is an eye opening event, If you've never been, you have no clue...
I, personally, enjoyed watching the Ex Pro guys mixing it up, or the exibitions of Fox riders like RC and Ezra Lusk one year... Anyway, Jeff Emig has raced it, I say Ryan Hughes will be accepted as well... They had to go through the qualifiers just like the rest of us...

Why don't the 7 year olds race the 7-8 class?

We got 3 choices us 4-6 guy's

We chose the fast class.

Not the pw.
Not the multispeed.
Those classes are for beginners and no longer belong.

Since a 7-8 class exists why are they in the 4-6?

Hughes finished 17-30 in the 2010 USGP at Glen Helen. He should only ride the Pro Sport class.

Great points. It would work but the problem is that those that enforce the rules need to not make exceptions. If you held a pro license, you are ineligible for the +30 class. Regardless if you qualified for a national/SX or not.....

7 year olds that turn 7 after the cutoff date of January 1. It happens in every Youth Class so get used to it. I find more offensive the fact that a comletely gone through Barr motor can be on the gate and not be considered modified. I'm not saying it's a cheater motor/bike but they are very loose/free compared to an untouched unit. I feel the same way about a stock KX85 suspension that acts like works but doesn't have the adjustability without going internal. Maybe not cheating but someone has taken a lot of time to get those results with little to work with.

Whaaaaaaa.....Whaaaaaaaa......

Here is a little scenario for ya;
Say the 4-6 yr class is strictly 4-6.......your kid is the one that qualify's and is ready to go to LL's.

But then he has a birthday.
Oh....sorry kid you can no longer go the the race in August.

Or maybe he should have to qualify against all those older kids because he is going to have a birthday.
I can hear the whining and crying from here already....."My kid had to race against an older class of racers."
Whaaaaaaa....Whaaaaaaa.....Whaaaa.

The rule is the same for everybody.........your racing age is your age on Jan 1 of the year.
Don't like it.....don't participate.

If it was your kid who turned 7 after the race year started I bet you wouldn't be on here whining about it.

You do realize this "problem" will follow you through his entire amateur career right? When I raced 9-11 80cc my class was won by a 12 year old Johnny Marley. When I was in Schoolboy my class was won by a 16 year old Nick Wey. Get use to it, you'll be racing kids who turn a year older after the cut-off age for the better part of a decade. There's no point in complaining about it.

Ryan will probably only race the pro-sport class...due to the usgp last year. If he stays away from the pro stuff this year he will be eligible for the +35 next year anyway. I say let him... I get a kick out of racing the old "pro" guys anyway. Emig didn't win the first year, even tho he did the next...Trampas Parker has become a close friend since racing there, and guys like Billy Liles, Reynard, Clark Stiles, Dubach and many more have returned to battle also. I understand the need for a vet expert class and would like to see it included myself, but it has not happened yet. Personally i can't wait till next year if Hughes returns...just another guy on the gate that makes our class more talked about than any other! Since missing this year from a broke leg i hope to be ready for the task at hand next year and do my best to show him a wheel once or twice before its over with. I may get beat, but you never know...funny things seem to happen at the ranch and i will be there to capitalize on it if it does! Just wait...Alessi tells me all the time he is coming back one day and even RC makes comments about it quite often. I can't wait to see who's next...I got some roost for them! lol

For those complaining about the the 7 year olds in the 4-6 class you really should have planned juniors birth date accordingly. I mean wtf kind of mini dad would not make sure his little racer is born at a favorable time with the cut off date? You screwed up you knew the rules before hand and didn't use them to your advantage. It's obvious you should not be in charge of juniors racing career you screwed him before he ever hit the track, dumbass.

This is how riders should be, eager to race the best instead of complaining or dodging the faster guys so you can get a trophy!

So now I got you guy's and Kevin walker ( his opinions on the event are likely heard) and Andrew and Jackie short all agreeing that the age rule is an unfair advantage. Especially when it comes to 4 year olds.

Why don't we put the little guy's out there for the practice with the big bikes in this new vet pro
Class if 6-8 months doesnt matter in a 4'year old VS.'a 7 year old.

And don't worry we are used to it.'we run with them year olds in the 7-9 locally.

You guys should watch the cobra class down there . You will be amazed.

And like I said they haven't beaten us yet so don't call me a whiner.

Wouldn't you have the same problem though if you change the cut off date to Aug 1st? There would be 3 year olds(at the time of the qualifiers, yes it would happen) trying to ride 4-6, so you can't really say it's for safety.

My 6 year old daughter was born in late July, and the cutoff for soccer is August 1. She plays soccer with girls that are 11 months and change older than her. The difference in development is huge, but it is what it is. If my little swimmers would have held off for a couple of weeks before they sealed the deal, she would be playing a full year back and she would be the oldest kid on the team. If she is the next Mia Hamm, it will be apparent by the time she is playing school ball and her age won't matter. Same for your little RC. Umagumadog was being tongue in cheek, but he is right. Some kids have an age advantage and some a disadvantage, it doesn't mean the rules are unfair.

Yep, always been that way........nothing new. When I was on 50's, 60's, and 80's the rule was April 1st if I remember right and my birthday was in January. I raced with a whole handful of kids who had April birthdays (whether they really did or not) who gained a whole year on me because of a few months.

Ryan Hughes will be racing in the 450 Pro-Sport class. Kevin Walker is right: Based on his participation in an MX1 Grand Prix in 2010, he is ineligible for the Vet +35 class, if he in fact even signed up for it for the actual LL race.

If I got 2nd or 3rd to Ryno or Dubach, I would be honored! To me the word "VET" says it all.

My kid was born Dec 24th, he's 5 and qualified 2nd at regionals... Uphill battle for him, no whining.

People just need to take LL's for what it is. The C lass is the sandbagged class. The best 85 rider right now is a paid Pro. The B class is really the A class. The Pro Sport class??? Who cares. For those that want to race this race have fun with it. Those that are not fast enough to make it, hang in there. It gets easier and easier every yr to get into this race. The way this sport is dieing at the local level right now will make this race just like every other Amateur National. All you are going to have to do is show up. The qualifying system is going to be gone due to lack of numbers.

The qualifying system is going to be gone due to lack of numbers.
did you go to an area or regional qualifier this year? the ones i seen was packed in every class...local races may be down, but not LL stuff.

"...haven't beaten us....."? Does that Cobra seat two?
