Fouled plug, but dry

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 1:13pm
While riding hatfield yesterday my bike sputtered and acted like it had a fouled plug. My tour guide & I took out the spark plug to replace with a new one I had. The old plug was tan and dry as a bone. I had a half tank of gas, plenty of coolant (it lost maybe a half inch from when I started). My bike (a kx250) ran great both days I was there, other than this.

So can plugs go bad without being wet and oily?

We put a new plug in my son's bike. He rode like three times with the new plug. He plug blew out completely and locked the bike up.

I bought 5 gallons of race gas last week and mixed with Super-Techniplate at 44:1. The plug was medium tan and according to the mechanic that replaced my fork seals two weeks ago it is jetted perfectly. I'm not terribly worried about it - after swapping plugs it ran fine again. Smile

That's because you were probably running a non-resistor plug?

An easy way to check if your plug is fouled without even taking it out the bike is take the cap off, (you'll need a meter) put one lead on the top of the plug, and the other to ground. O.L the plug is not fouled, 10 million ohms or less it is likely fouled, 1 million ohms or less that fucker's gone.

my bosses kid had a KX 100 that kept fouling the $20 extravagant plug that was recommended. I looked like a hero when I threw an old BS8E that I had in that sucker and it ran for months.
