I'm thinking about getting one. I probably would have one, if my other vehicle was 4-wheel drive...winters suck.

Wonder if the price difference is worth it compared to a regular van?

Absolutely.

You should consider is just buying the std roof model and the shorter wheel base. You save some cash and it makes the van way more practical for daily use and loses a little bit of its functional use vs the high roof/long wheelbase model. The shortest model is still the same length as a long wheel base Ford however the std extra height and a much more spacious drivers compartment really push the Sprinter ahead of the Ford.

Bottom line; I love mine and honestly from a function and practical use stand point its the best vehicle I've ever had.

What engine would you recommend?, gas mileage? any chance of pics of the van set up for moto, how many bikes and gear ,gas can extra parts? wheel chocks, tool box etc, thanks. What would be a average price with a van with a decent amount of options?

All made by mercedes they were just imported into america as a dodge until mercede's share in dodge, jeep and chrysler were sold. U can now by them in the US under as a mercedes or freightliener (mercedes owns a good portion of them)

I have friends with newer and older ones and from what i've seen the older motors get better fuel mileage and are more reliable. I think the newer one has a lil more torque but u can play with the older motors more mapping wise from what i've heard.

I have a 2005, tall roof, medium wheelbase model. I am 5' 11-1/2" tall (yes I count the half in) and can stand up inside with no prob.

As far as towing, on paper it doesnt sound like alot of HP or torque, but I had no problem hauling my moms 85 suburban, w the 454 on my carhauler from ventura ca to AZ. Sure you cant pull 75mph up a steep grade towing like you could w/ a durmax, but it hauls just fine. Bully dog has come out w a tuner so you can mod it a bit or another company will reprogram your computer. Right now its all stock engine wise. cant beat the 600 mi range on a full tank of fuel.

I just finished installing the sliding RV windows in mine and need to get going on the rest of the conversion. I think I am gonna convert it as a mini RV and put the bike on my hitch hauler or trailer. If I had the longest WB model I would partition it and haul the bikes inside. (I hate the smell of fuel inside the vehicle)

Its All mercedes, always was, the only thing dodge about it was the badges and the dealership I bought it at(everything from the gauge cluster to drivetrain is mercedes)

The frame is integrated into the body, (It has framerails but they are welded to the body) not a uni body but close enough.

basically all mercedes since mercedes owns the majority of freightliner. Im pretty sure the chassis is made on one of mercedes' assembly lines though. they also produce chassis for volkswagen to use in a very similar van that uses a volkswagen motor but is only sold in Europe, South America and mexico

My buddy Cole has one and it's sick. He uses it to race the national enduro series, can cram 3 bikes in the back and has bunk beds/satellite/AC in the middle section. Has the beds running length wise because he's pretty tall, but still has plenty of room in the sleeper. Seats 3 up front (bench) and get's surprisingly good gas mileage. It's an amazing setup to say the least.

He has the long wheelbase high top model. Here's a quick photo, next time I'm over there I'll see if I can't get some photos of the inside sleeper area.

I would like to hear more about the capabilities of these vans for towing. We have rented a 2500 series for a trip west and plan on towing a 24 foot enclosed aluminum framed trailer with ten bikes in it. That probably figures into a total of 7000 pounds or so. Do any more of you have opinions that could put my mind at ease, or warn me to look another way?
