VAT is not a tariff, it is a sales tax which is applied to local and imported goods

VAT is the same as a state sales tax.

"Imported goods" why I said close.

I'm on diesel forum and the European members are always asking for American guys to help them with parts shipments as the VAT is crushing them so to those who say it's the same as regular sales tax I beg to differ.

VAT is a sales tax, but at a higher rate than many US state's sales taxes, it is applied to both local and imported products.

A tariff is only applied to imported products, not locally produced products.

Vat or gst is charged in locally produced  items as well,  it’s basically a sales tax that is charged at every step not just the final sales  the companies get to claim back the vat/gst they pay in purchasing ,

Spin it how you like, if it makes you feel better.

It is a tax on imported goods is what we are saying, in that way,  just like a tariff.

It's funny they want lower income taxes, but are happy to pay more consumption tax.
