Believe it or not I got in an argument tonight over Paul Whelan with a Conservative. They kept insisting he was a Veteran. Even after I showed them the JAG PDF and “Law for Veterans” which clearly states with a BCD you are no longer considered a Veteran. Their response was, “Then why does the media keep calling him a Veteran”. After I pointed out that the media were liars, the person said, “shut up or I’ll stab you”.
Anybody that knows the old me knows I would have hit them right then and there. The new me chose to walk away. Now that’s what I call Spiritual Progress!
Yeah, I don't think a BCD gets you any perks.
Sometimes it’s better to let someone wallow in their own ignorance. An ass kicking only places your freedom at risk. But, you can smile knowing they’ll be a dumb ass the rest of their lives in ignorant bliss.

Spitting hairs over what the media or civilians think, as opposed to what the federal government thinks, seems like a pretty petty argument to make, with respect to Whelen.
No one in the federal government is describing the former marine who served a tour in Iraq, f'd up wrote bad checks other shit a veteran are they?, No, but the media seems to be making an argument that Whelens freedom is somehow worth more than Griners? That's a really f'd up argument to make IMO.
Whole Griner vs Whelen issue is BS. The constitution doesn't declare military, ex military, first class citizens and big chicken dinner winners, Griner or civilians, second class citizens. They are equal. Sure the circumstances may dictate a preference for the swap, thinking you got a better deal, secured a more valuable asset, etc. Likely Putin, said you want Griner, give us Bout, you want Whelen, make us an offer we can't refuse.
You get what you get with these swaps.
Problems with swaps, is they tend to encourage more bad actors to perform more of the same, holding prisoners, essentially taking hostages, and you end up playing, Whack a mole forever.
That is more or less my conservative viewpoint on the topic.. Sometimes the stories and narratives form so fast, you don't have time to process it. I have more thoughts on the whole deal, but I think the above about covers the diversion of the week story.
Educate me: What's a BCD? Some sort of discharge, I imagine... less than honorable. What does the acronym stand for?

Can tell you this, as a holder of Honorable Discharges, from two different branches, you’ve got to really be a fuckup to receive a BCD.
The other person just wouldn’t believe I knew more on the subject than Tucker Carlson, or Chris Matthews, or any other of the talking heads. Showed them Whelan’s appeal from the Navy’s Judge Advocate General, and the consequences of a BCD from Law for Veteran’s (posted above). Evidently they couldn’t believe those sources contradicted what they’d heard.
It’s insane that you can show them the proof and they still won’t believe it. People that see no problem with TwitterGate. It’s insane. This stuff makes Nixon in 1973 look mundane. Anyone with any culpability should be impeached and barred from any/all further government service.
It’s definitely a divisive tactic. They’re trying to make Whelan out to be Combat Hero Marine, when nothing is further than the truth. We shouldn’t tolerate misinformation disseminated by the Conservatives, nor the Liberals.

I saw the movie...the military gave him a BCD as cover for his covert ops in Russia. A mole blew his cover and the Russians locked him up. In prison, he makes contact with an incarcerated double agent. Together, they foil a diabolical plot to destroy the world. 🙄
