The MSNBC rumors may be true. In an exclusive interview with Russia Today, Alt-Right parade blimp and former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon has hinted that Elon—as a special inauguration day gift to his new boss—is considering buying the network and relaunching it as The Gorilla Channel, one of Trump’s favorites from his first presidential incumbency. Trump’s peculiar interest in primate-watching was reported in a 2019 Vanity Fair article citing a passage found in Fire And Fury, Michael Wolff’s incendiary book about the first Trump administration:
“An especially stunning excerpt described how the president, on his first night in office, had complained that White House televisions did not carry “the gorilla channel” To appease Trump, White House staff compiled a number of gorilla documentaries into a makeshift gorilla channel, broadcast into Trump’s bedroom from a hastily-constructed transmission tower on the South Lawn, However, Trump was unhappy with the channel they had created, moaning that it was “boring’ because ‘the gorillas aren’t fighting.”
“Staff edited out all the parts of the documentaries where gorillas weren’t hitting each other, and at last the president was satisfied, the excerpt continued, citing “an insider” who said Trump would watch “the gorilla channel” for 17 hours straight on some days. “He kneels in front of the TV, with his face about four inches from the screen,” the insider continued, “and says encouraging things to the gorillas, like ‘the way you hit that other gorilla was good.’” 😄
Why didn't he outright buy Twitter by himself if he had the money?
People with big money know how to leverage their money...
He doesn't technically 'have the money', he has assets that are worth a lot of money if they are sold. But if those assets (ownership in companies specifically) are sold, then there is no more appreciation to that money unless he can exchange it for something that makes even more money.
As for Twitter, I think he ended up with a pretty large chunk of it but he really only needed to have 50.1% really. It didn't sound like too many other people wanted to pitch in a huge amount of their own money at the overvalued price, but for a lot of them to pitch in a little bit was less of a risk to each of them.

Wombat is correct here. Although I applaud the "de-swampification" of Washington, it works both ways. There are a lot of politicians on both sides of the aisle that need a refresher course in ethics, and it is not just Democrats who are the problem with legacy media. (Although in recent decades the media has leaned to the left more often than not.)
Controlling the narrative is what helped get us in this polarized mess to begin with. Swapping the polarity won't fix the actual problem. News outlets need to have a professional, balanced approach with as close to zero political bias as possible. It remains to be seen if Elon will own MSNBC, and if he does, what will happen to it.
