When will Yamaha finally put a hydraulic clutch on a YZ250FX or WR250F, its the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger. Since I ride enduro and single track a nice hydraulic clutch and a clake would be nice
I add a Magura to all my Yamahas.
Magura on the FX really helped in technical terrain. The stock clutch with the lighter springs is hard to keep adjusted when it gets hot. Other than that I never had an issue with the cable for day to day offroad rising.
Don’t let the cable hold you back! YZ250FX shines in so many areas. Only hiccup is hard enduro, but that’s not the domain of most 250Fs anyway.
Just looking at an alternative to my 250xcfw. I love orange but always wanted a yz
Absolutely no need on the FX. The OEM sleeved cabled clutch pulls like butter.

My buddy has a 22 Wr250f and that clutch pull is super light/east and butter smooth.
Don’t let the lack of a hydraulic clutch stop you! My 250FX clutch pull is way lighter than my KTM300- and in my opinion has better feel.
Works fine in hard enduro, especially with a hydraulic clutch. As good as any 250F out there.
Issue is in slow, tech stuff where the clutch gets abused. The light clutch springs, which is why the pull is so light becomes an issue and goes out of adjustment easily. That causes more stalling than normal.
I dont have the slightest clue what people seem to think is so awesome about a hydraulic clutch. Especially on a 4 stroke that needs very little clutch work and therefore will be subject to little or no clutch fade. People just want what they want, usually for no clear reason.
The cable clutch on the Yamaha is the best out there, there is zero reason for Yamaha to put the heavier, more complicated hydraulic clutch on it.
The 250FX I road has a better clutch feel then the 350 XCF I road...
Now, again, if they would just make a YZ350FX!!! I want one for x-mass.
My 22 250fx with a stock cable pulls lighter than my buddies ktm hydro. Great bikes for woods and track if you are just a weekend warrior!
It’s okay in technical terrain, but not its primary purpose. The FX’s weight and tendency to stall unexpectedly becomes tedious, especially when there are better options available. But like anything, choose your weapon based on riding preferences.
Yeah it’s an XC bike.
Tuner app, higher idle and hydro clutch greatly reduces its tendency to stall. It’s no 300 but one of the best 250F’s in those conditions.
