Keep it at 22 riders to start the race, but at the halfway mark, riders in positions 16-22 are done for the night (I'd bet most of these riders would rather call it a night than go on anyway). Incorporate an LED light on the bars that only comes on at that time for those riders, so they can safely pull off the track as early as possible and not have to wait for a black flag to fly at them.

Privateers acting like they are owed a spot because they are "putting in the work"

Or the ama could actually punish friese for once vs just looking the other way. Give him a monetary fine and watch his behavior change.

An idea, your 3 lap average in qualifying has to be within 80-90% of the top 5 to get into the night show. Whether thats a full 22 man gate or 15.

A lot of these guys outside of the top 10 can show sprint speed but don't have the endurance to keep up with the top guys during the mains.

I posted this on another of the inumerable threads about lappers. All these LCQers in the bubble train specifically for sprint speed to qualify via the LCQs. They're completely cooked after 6 minutes of a main and just start rolling around, thus adding even more to the speed difference between the bubble butts and the elite.

You could argue that the LCQ is making the situation worse.  We run two heats to see who the the fastest 18 riders are, then we run an LCQ to allow four more really slow guys into the main.

Run 22 rider heats; take the top eight from each of the heats, with a provisional allowance for up to two top ten riders who didn’t make the top eight in their heat.  You end up with a 16-18 rider main event.

Get rid of the LCQ, run a B main with the 12 guys who missed the cut plus maybe the next four fastest qualifiers.

Two mains with only 16 riders means the track gets slightly less worn during the night.  Also fewer riders means the starts are likely to be a bit safer.

The good B main guys get more exposure than they would by running around in 17-22 place in the A main.

Same amount of racing so the TV schedule is not impacted.

Oh and actually enforce the blue flag rules with meaningful penalties.

The LCQ is partly (Primarily?) to get a title contender into the main. If they had an issue in the heats: crash/bike issue.
For that it’s good.

Could easily apply to a top 15 guy who had an issue in the heats. Not always/usually the slowest 4 riders

It's not so much about making more power, but allowing riders to have a powerband more suited to SX vs. whatever is offered at retail.  What I'm suggesting is pretty common in other forms of motorsport.

Me, and plenty of others would rather just a capacity class. Run a 2 or 4 stroke. Modify it as much as you want. 2 stroke development is cheaper than 4 stroke.

4 strokes have come so far, I don’t think the 2 strokes would dominate. If they did? Good!
