I forgot how clean this oil runs.  Just put 40 hours on a 125, at 32:1.  The piston and head had zero carbon on them.  Zero.

Not good, a properly jetted bike there will be carbon on the crown of the piston and only washed on the piston above the ports. A clean piston with no carbon is too rich as the piston is washed clean by the excess fuel.

As a mechanic I found Yamalube 2R to be the worst always clogging the exhaust port with thick carbon build up that had to chipped/cut out

This is what my mechanic told me and was shown my previous pistons for proof. I switched to MotoRex. Much cleaner.

Could be a jetting difference. Run what is working for you

I recall reading that it is the same thing as McCulloch chainsaw oil. Not joking. I've used Champion WP2 since the mid '90s. Power valves always as free as could be. No carbon build up at all. 927 smells good and I've used it. It would stick early  '90s CR power valves quicker than anything though.

I've used Yamalube 2R at 32:1 for 20 years, since I bought my Yz125.  I've had no issues whatsoever.  My power valve moves smoothly, carbon is there but minimal, and I haven't had a top end seize.  The cylinder is in good shape too. What else should I be looking for?

I used Honda 2 stroke oil on my CR125 for many years without issue as well.

I'm not opposed to trying something else, but it's difficult to know what to try since it seems every oil has riders who swear by it.

Back in the day, my favorite was Blendzall, but I have no idea if that's a good oil either.

How do you know?

Stick with it then. Pick a oil, jet the bike and run it. I ran Yamalube R at 40:to1 for years without issues. I use Maxima 927 now but I got a bunch for free but the Yamalube R was great also.

Not sure if Citgo still has the license, but for many years your statement would be exactly right. Some of these people’s heads would explode when they find out where most of their “moto” oils really come from.

I know the (it smells great folks) will disagree but I'd take 2R over 927 all day long.  927 smells good but THAT is some ultra-dirty burning stuff based on tear downs I've done after giving 927 a try.   This is based on 927 that was sold in the 90's , maybe they've updated it but I've not heard anything on that.

Seems like a bike would be fouling plugs out the ying-yang if it was running rich enough to wash carbon from the piston?

Each one has Custom formalization to meet each different brands individual requirements. Even the way it smells is part of the unique mixture. I know one considered pine smell like in the woods.

I have always loved the way Klotz smelled.

I personally like Golden Spectro’s mixture of both oil and synthetic at 50:1 so it has both types benefits.

Why not just use the full synthetic rotella in the blue bottle?

Only in a Yamaha because it comes in a blue bottle. The oil wars are amusing to me. Just use good shit and call it a day. I use Honda oils in our GasGas bikes because it comes in a red bottle for red bikes. Honda grip glue works awesome too, and a tube lasts forever.

That’s if the company provides a formula. Yamalube simply had Citgo package their formula with Yamalube branding and bottling.
