What is the consensus on the durability of painting your steel frame with powdercoat versus an automotive paint? Not concerned about flaking or prep related issues, but more like roost from the front tire etc. Powdercoat seems to go on very thick, and unsightly, but is there a better alternative with automotive paint and a durable clear coat?

A good powder coater can lay a nice smooth finish... automotive paint will wear wayyy faster as it’s not very resistant to roost or boot rub...

The bikes are Powdercoat’s from the factory. I always use Powdercoat on my Ktm’s

PC, but don’t expect either to last very well.

Powdercoat is more durable than paint. If you want it to last you need to get guards for the boot area and a skid plate for underneath.
