This past weekend a riding buddy had all of the coolant leak out mid moto, severely overheating the engine in his 21 kx450. The bike never seized, but it doesn't sound healthy and the oil is glittery. I'm going to be helping him rebuild it this winter, but I've never rebuilt an engine that was overheated like this.
Anyone have experience tearing down an engine that got way too hot? If so what damage did you find other than piston scuffing?

Also expect the crank will need to be replaced or rebuilt with new rod and bearings.
Expect it see cylinder damage, valve and seat damage as well ams valve seals.

Start saving $$ and get the bike torn apart asap so that you can start a shopping list and get stuff ordered asap.
That should hopefully give you time to deal with some sever back order delays and a head repair and/or cylinder replate (or any other work you choose to sub).

Never mind , it’s the same guy as the e bay above. It’s a business and violation of Vital for sale rules.
