I held off on posting about this until it was pretty much proven the US was behind the illegal coup in Ecuador. The US becomes more pathetic in the international sphere with each passing illegal coup fvck up. The Ecuadorian people were able to stop this attempt.

If you were waiting you could at least have found an article that supported your CIA theory.

The US isn't posting articles, as usual, but I can post some from around Latin America if you want.

Also, if you had even a small amount of knowledge on the region, you would have known what was going on immediately.

The Ecuadorian police and Military are trained and funded quite heavily by US military who have training stations set up in Ecuador. The US has been pumping out anti-Correra propaganda for months.

Probably nothing, Ecuador's coca production is very small.

Why is that? Do you have some valid information to share on the subject?

Why does anybody have a non-moto avatar? Didn't think it really mattered.

Did you even read what you linked to?

"But talking about a traditional coup in Ecuador, or even a coup at all, might be going too far.

The protests started on Thursday morning, as police and soldiers staged a mutiny against some aspects of a new civil service law.

The lower ranks of both institutions rebelled, while the high commands came out to support the government - indicating there was no mastermind, but rather a spontaneous popular uprising."

Sounds like some of the police were pissed about pay cuts.

Yes, that is what the main stream media in the western world has reported. What they didn't report is word of a coup attempt by the US supported and funded opposition had been rumored for months. What was needed was a believable catalyst, ie a bill reallocating military and police benefits.

Of course the opposition immediately came out stating they were innocent, especially after the citizens of Ecuador got pissed and were calling for the aggressor's heads. Also, after Brazil and even the right leaning Columbian government promised support for Carrera the coup fizzled out. It's funny how the US government waited to respond to the coup until they realized it was a failure.

The US did the exact same thing in Honduras a while ago, but there, the coup actually worked.

Where's your source on the "trained and funded quite heavily"?

Where exactly are the training stations?

Up through 2009 the US had a Forward Operating Base in Manta, Ecuador, which was actually illegally leased by the previous president, Jamil Mahuad, against Ecuador's constitution. Mahuad was a puppet president which did whatever the US wanted. The base was used for two reasons, to control drug traffic from Columbia, and to make inroads into the Ecuadorian Military. The US has been pissed since Correra did not renew the base lease. A former US puppet president, Lucio Gutierrez, is the one behind the coup. He has been close to the US military for years and also controls part of the Ecuadorian Military.

Just take a look at newspapers from most Latin American countries and you will see thousands of articles over the past 5 years with info about the US meddling in their affairs.

Are you trying to say the "training stations" were the base in Manta?

So you don't actually have a source for the "are trained and funded quite heavily" (present tense) allegation?

And it's Correa.

Members of my family who live there have a markedly different take on the events than your sophism. But still, I checked the Quito paper el Comercio. They headline the president's press conference wherein he fails to mention the CIA attempted a coup.

el Comercio

Then I checked the Guayaquil paper. They had a similar story and also had no mention of a CIA coup attempt.

El Universo

No mention of the "proven" fact you claim.

So if this is such a big event as you claim, and there's no mention in the Ecuadorian press, how is it you have proof? You are not full of shit are you?

Is the CIA really that bad, or is it the fact that all you hear about are the fuckups? Do you think they really adverstise all of their successes all over the media? Of course, anything our government has a hand in is going to be laughable to a certain extent just because somewhere along the line politicians have a hand in it. But I'm sure they've done enough things right over the years as well. I don't believe in government by the people with FULL disclosure, because too many people just aren't educated enough or involved enough to know WTF is going on. How many people here would abolish the CIA and similar agencies?
