Several months ago I pitched the "commuter bike" idea to the wife. Well, that went over like a fart in church.

The other day she had been talking to a friend in the car/bike business, and he told her how inexpensive it all can be with ins. and all.

So she says to me as I just sat down from work "So, you should consider a bike. Mark says you could get on one pretty cheap".

I got up, walked outside for a second, and re-entered. She asked what I was doing, and I told her I was making sure I was in the right house.

Anyway, anyone have any knowlege of the SV650? Just plan on riding to work and back, and running around town.

From what I know, good solid bike and fairly bulletproof

See a lot of them road racing...a lot

So they must handle well also

Excellent bike. Great all rounder especially for how you intend to use it. Cheap too.

Thanks fellas, I'm leaning that way pretty hard.

Since Suzuki calls it a "Standard" motorcycle, one wouldn't expect to pay "Crotch rocket" insurance prices would they?

No you should be good on that account. Insurance companies look at the age of the rider & the size of the bike. They also flag the "crotch rockets" that each manufacturer makes. The SV doesn't fit that criteria but check around.

Get a klr 650.

You can roost, jump RR tracks, and wheelie over curbs, and then ride it to work

Unless you're 16-24 with a crappy driving history insurance will be cheap. Even crotch rockets aren't that bad if you are older with a clean record.

My Z1000 Kawi naked bike isn't considered a "crotch rocket" because it doesn't have a fairing. $400/yr full coverage.

I found that they rate the SV650 as a standard. The SV650S which is the same bike with a fairing was rated as a sportbike. As always get insurance quotes before you buy. www.motorcycleservices.com has online quotes and has usually the best rate.

Sure, but I think it works better in person. With his charm and looks, it's a lock. Mrs. SMF loves her some Mark.Smile

I just bought one earlier this year. Bought an 07 naked leftover for $5200 plus tax. Insurance is $175/yr. Gas mileage has been 55mpg consistently.

Great bike, handles great! Buy one!

Great bike, handles well on roads. They do a lot of track racing with them, and if you intend to do that at any point you'd want to upgrade the suspension if you were serious, but there are many companies that make parts.

Get the Gel seat for it, thank me later.

you left this part out of the conversation saturday. i see how it is.
The sv kicks ass SMF. pretty smooth ride, lowend torque and not peaky like a conventional crotchrocket. since you said SV and not SVS i'll go ahead and tell you it's a more comfortable/upright riding position so it saves your wrist and neck compared to the S or another sportbike. Great on track days too. Suspension kinda soft for track but like EI says they are a popular choice on track days. with slight mods they rule on the track.

let me know when you pick one up. i'll trade you for a slightly used/bent up kxf 450....
