Summer Concerts?

Edited Date/Time 6/21/2012 5:12am
There are a lot of older major bands hitting the road this summer. Who are you going to go see?

Any others?

I'm going to two of those shows: Van Halen in Greenville SC in August, and Aerosmith in Atlanta in July.

Here is another one. A mix of some older and newer harder stuff.

Are there any newer bands that can even pull off a major tour? It seems like all the major concerts this summer are bands that are at least 20 years old.

We're catching KISS in Dallas while we're traveling there for a karate tournament in August. Thinking of making a trip to Houston to take my kid to see Maiden. Last night I saw Slash w/ Myles Kennedy at the Hard Rock in Biloxi, and last week I saw Megadeth there. Both shows were amazing. Might try to catch Aerosmith if they come somewhere around here.

Man you are seeing all the good stuff. Was Slash's band good. I worked with a guy at Pizza place while I was in college in Spokane that was in a band with Myles Kennedy at the time. I am pretty sure they were some sort of jazz band though.

The fans of the new acts are young kids too broke to afford tickets so the old school groups can still pull it off. Country music is the only genre with young acts that still sell out concerts.
Thats the music my son's band plays. Thats how I know about their fans.

You think? Because I saw most of these bands when I was in highschool. The ones I saw were all well established by the time I saw them but they probably had been around maybe only 10 years or so. They were able to do it back then whenthey were young and draw big crowds and put on big tours. I think country is broader in that older people will go see younger bands where I don't see too many older rock guys going to see any the young bands that are out today. Although i think a lot of young guys will go see the legends. I saw The Who when i was in highschool on their 25th anniversary tour and I though they ancient Most of these bands have been at it are 30 + years.

I haven't heard of one of these bands. I take it this isn't a stadium tour?

Slash's band was very good. They are calling themselves "Slash featuring Myles Kennedy amd the Conspirators," and they are releasing a new CD in a couple weeks. On Slash's last solo album, which featured a variety of singers ranging from Ozzy to Fergie, Myles did a couple songs and they were probably the best two songs on that CD. Last night, they did a few Guns'N'Roses tunes, a couple from Velvet Revolver, the two with Myles from that solo CD, and the rest was their new stuff. They played for an hour and 45 minutes, which is 30 minutes longer than just about every other show I've seen at Hard Rock. Myles Kennedy has to be the best rock singer around right now. His voice was perfect all night long, and he just nailed all of the G'n'R songs.

Has anybody seen any of these bands in recent years? I have seen few bands outside of their prime but I have never seen a band outside of their prim who i saw in it. Is it worth it or does it kind of taint the memories?

I've seen several old 80's/ early 90's metal acts at Hard Rock, including Slash, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Stone Temple Pilots, Poison, Brett Michaels (solo but mainly doing Poison's material), Vince Neil (solo but maily doing the Crue set list), Heart, Pat Benatar, Styx, Cheap Trick - and just too many others to remember. Almost every one of them put on amazing shows, and I would much rather see them in a small venue like that than in an arena. About the only disappointments I can recall offhand were Dokken, who totally mailed it in, and Ratt, who didn't sound too bad but looked like they didn't really care to be there.

I seen Maiden year before last and they were GREAT! Bruce runs around all night, sings like a TROOPER and puts on a great show. Then somehow gets ups at the crack of dawn the next day and flys the band to the next gig!

Any of you guys see the Maiden 666 documentary? Amazing setup they had with their private plane (747?) that Bruce pilots. Another level indeed.

I seen Anthrax also, and it was O.K... just O.K. *I never actually seen Anthrax in my younger years tho.

Motley Crue was on the money... Poor old Mick Mars wasn`t too mobile but Tommy Lee made up for that!

Maiden is the main one I want to see. They were my favorite band when I was a kid. This tour is redo of the 7th Son which i saw when I was thirteen so there is a big nostalgia aspect there for me. I watched the somewhere back in time concert on TV and they seemed unbelievable for their age. Only issue is I would be solo and the venue is an Indian reservation amphitheater that takes a couple hours of traffic each way to go 10 to 15 miles. I also want to see Kiss and the Crue because I haven't seen either one before. Unfortunately it is at the same place. I have been hemming and hawing for awhile about going but you guys are getting me more motivated to go ahead and do it. I haven't been to a metal concert since Clash of the Titans in 91.

Not really, Worcester is at The Palladium and NY is at Roseland. Places like that, Im sure youve heard of Roseland. These are more mid level bands, they draw really large crowds for what they are. All these bands together will be Warped Tour level crowds (actually most of these bands are or were on Warped Tour)

I grew up watching these style bands in small club scenes and used to really enjoy it. Everyone was friends and always had a great time. Now its filled with those "slipknot" kids with JNCO jeans that wear shirts of the band theyre seeing to the show..

Random side story.. I just went to the Rise Against / A Day To Remember show/concert in Tampa, and it was total bro fest. EVERYONE had an ADTR or RA shirt on, all the local radio stations were parked in the lot cranking RA.. EVERY song possible.. I cant stand that. Paying the dumb money they wanted for a ticket (Ive seen both bands in club scenes for about $12..) then being overloaded with their stuff before I see them. No thanks

Just went to Chris Cornell acoustic a few nights ago. Saw him with lincoln park with my daughter a few years ago and with Soundgarden and Temple of the dog at Lollapalooza 1. It was good.

Well, scratch one of those shows from my list. VH postponed all concerts after late June (the ones they just added). Oh well, that's "par for the course" with these guys.
