Okay gang, I know a few of you have mentioned this, and I think we've discovered the problem. But better than that, we also have a solution.
Aaron thinks that it is caused by a specific build of the Flash player which is being used by the media-rich ESPN ads we're currently running. It's not the forum software itself.
It seems to only occur in Internet Explorer 6 (and possibly 7).
Upgrading the Flash player seems to cure this, and you can get an upgraded version here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP

I upgraded my flash player and that seems to help the pages load faster but I still get locked up/kicked out when I click on some topics. Sometimes I have to force close Internet Explorer to get unstuck. This is the only site this happens on.
Any suggestions?
