I have the opportunity to go to kuwait as a contracted firefighter for a 6 month term, any advise? pros? cons?
Is your motivation for going purely financial?
Have you been to that part of the country before now?
Some things to consider before getting too far into it.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
It will be great expierence.
I had a chance to go to Turkey to help build F-16's and my pecker got in the way. I might not have my children now so I guess I made the right decision, but still always wonder what that would have been like.
My 27 y/o just got back from a year in Kosovo and thought it was alright. His girlfriend waiting for him to get back, and he has been part time military for about 10 years now.
He's had a lot of great experiences around the world, and been paid for it. As long as you don't have high expectations, and a load of money. The work will be dangerous, and conditions will suck.
Do a lot of research before making any decisions, and stick to it when you decide.
Good luck.
Not only are they paying her well, but they're treating her excellent with a nice free apartment and more.
Gave her a cell phone as soon as she stepped off the plane
On balance, if I had no family and the money was there, I think I'd take my chances and go for it.
This gives you a tax break of no taxes paid till you hit 75K.
Unless the rules have changed.
If you were an offshore oil worker, that is hard to pull off. But, if you are in the country like it sounds you will be, you can argue resident status because you spend money there etc.
Kuwait is heavily fortified with US troops.
A buddy of mines kid just got back from there a few months ago.
I would say it is one of the safest places you could go in the middle east.
If I were in your shoes, I'd be packing my bags.
Great experience for you.
That I know of, the 6 month gig is because that is all that you are allowed to live out of the USA before your citizenship starts fading.
I know a lot of guys that work 28 on / 28 off overseas.
Sometimes thay have to work additional days over.
Towards the end of the year, it gets dicey with them if they can even go back for a full hitch due to time spent out of country.
If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say it's a 6 month gig to keep the cost of obtaining a visa lower for his employer.
