I've sold a few items on CL before without issues, but I have always been smart where I met the potential buyer. I have a storage building I want to sell because I recently upgraded to a larger building. I am starting to second guess the notion of someone knowing my address. Any ideas for selling an item like this?

Where did you buy your new one? If they have room, maybe you could see about having it moved to their lot and sell it on consignment? Might be able to sell it quicker, too, especially if they can offer the "rent-to-own" deal that many of those places seem to do.

I always make people come to my house unless they meet me at work. Of course, you don't come down to our house unless you mean to and aren't making it out easily. Haven't had an issue yet..........I doubt someone buying a storage shed is going to be the type to case a house............

Got any dogs you can chain up around the parameter when potential buyers stop by?

Thanks for the replies. Good point about the type of buyer. I did reach out to the company that I bought the new building from and they did not provide a consignment type of service. I am going to bite the bullet and see how it goes. I have someone coming over this weekend and I am sure I made this bigger than what it's truly is.

I've sold hundreds of dollars worth of shit on craigslist. It used to be safe. I would imagine there is a 99.9% chance you'll have no issues.

But, on a somewhat related note, I was in a parking lot in St. Louis walking into a building yesterday at 7am. I passed a stranger and said "good morning". He stopped, looked at me and responded "says who! go fuck yourself!"
Almost started running inside the building after that one. wow. I've lost all faith in humanity.

In his defense, it is St. Louis and maybe he thought you were going to shoot him Tongue

I've been 2nd guessing having people come to my place to look at dirtbikes/mountain bikes but I haven't had an issue yet. If it's something I can fit in my truck I just always tell them I'm out doing errands and I meet them in a parking lot/gas station somewhere.

Put a visible sidearm on when you step out of the house. and make twitching motions with your head a little bit and you should get all the respect you need Smile

I have to pretty much agree with you. However, I did manage to sell a 2015 YZ125 off of Craigslist last month. I was asking $5500, but ended up taking $5000 - which I thought was still pretty good. I rode it for almost a year and a half.

Funny thing is, the guy that bought it was more paranoid than me. He was very reluctant to give me his address. I hadn't gone to the DMV and got an actual paper title, so told him I'd mail it to him when it came in. He opted I text him and he'd come get it - and he did.

You likely should have worn a shirt and he might not have been so freaked?

A true buyer would probably not be the type to worry about but just because they reply to the ad doesn't mean they are a true buyer and not someone wanting to case the place. That said, I wouldn't worry about it and trust humanity a little more and all the doom and gloom a lot less! Smile

tcannon521- thanks! The buyer came last week and is picking it up this weekend. So far no issues and seemed like a good guy.
