I didn't like her music or her antics but it's always sad to see someone waste away like that, especially such a young person.

She's joined the 27 club; Cobain, Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Brian Jones.

I don't like to be cynical but...

I've been watching that club grow for 35 years. Pretty creepy don't you think?

I don't get the infatuation with entertainers. I've heard more on this lady than I have on the Norway attacks or the fair tax proposals that've been circulating in Congress.

She danced. She sang. She acted. She took drugs. Big deal.

I'd like to see the attention turn to the people who make a daily difference in the quality of life. Now, there are billions of them out there, so maybe these entertainers are TRULY special in that they don't add any value or quality to life in general.

I think it's obviously a personal thing. It would hard for me to tell someone else exactly what adds value or quality to their life. I was/am a fan of Amy's talent, but I also felt she wouldn't be around long. Like Ricky, James, MC, Jordan, Depp, Jobs, Gates, Buffet, etc.; they've all accomplished stuff very few or nobody has before them. People connect and in some cases become infatuated with that.

Some people think motocross is silly and doesn't require talent, balls, athleticism, etc. The dang thing has a motor! "all they do is twist the throttle"...I disagree with that notion.

That said, I do understand where you are coming from.

I wasn't referring to their personal lives...I was talking about lives of others. Cops, firemen, teachers, doctors, construction workers, laborers, engineers, farmers, truck drivers, sanitation workers...they all add real value to the lives of others.

Actors? Entertainers? They're fluff, when it comes to day to day needs.

Well, no matter what her vocation was, it's sad to see someone self destruct. My sister drank herself to death, and the sense of futility and helplessness trying to help was ~ and remains ~ profound. I am sure some of her family and friends feel that and a real dread sense of the inevitability of it.

sorry for you having to lose your sis like that.

Co-dependency (and those afflicted) often hurts just as much. I suffered similar loss without the finality of death and am still healing.

It's a lifelong process.
