Is this becoming the dirty (not-so) secret of modern four-strokes? Reading Spinner's race report it sounded like Hahn's bike died on a launch face (not exactly a bog, but you get my drift) and didn't Grant pull out of a race recently because his bike was bogging?
I can't imagine all the work that goes into getting to a Supercross and having a rider pull off. Grant must have been really mad, having to make a choice whether to pull off or risk a huge crash that wasn't his fault.

The bog issues they were having were probably isolated incidents, and Grants issue was electrical I believe.

I saw Reed almost crash on a triple when his 2 stroke siezed in a qualifier , They fixed that issue with a 4 stroke.

On the issue of who puts the work in, I would say the Team and Mechanics put in alot more work and effort than the riders.

That's what I meant. It's just hard to believe that with a perfectly maintained bike that there would be a bogging issue.

The thing that amazes me is , most of the bikes for like Factory connection ect are not even put together 100% until Saturday morning , you would be amazed at the last minute scrambling going on in the pits, surely doesn't leave much time if a mistake is made or a bad part is installed, not to mention the 250F's are running such modified engines they are tempermental.

If tits or tires are involved it is bound to give you troubles sooner or later.

Merge ALJ and the accelerator pump spring. Best bang for your buck. You will be pleasantly surprised. Read the transworld article on it. There is a reason KTM, FC, Gibbs, H/H Cernics, and many other teams are using it.

I found that the bigger positive of the merge was the tune-ability. I was never able to fully get rid of the bog off idle but the differences you can make on how abrupt the power is applied is awesome. You can make the power roll on or you can make it instant, which comes in handy on super slick tracks

Ban all four strokes quicker than American Airlines cancels flights.
That will not only solve the bogging issue but will also cure world hunger and end the war in Iraq.

I just had surgery on my back after a BOG on the face of a huge gap. It could of happened anywhere on the track but it was the big one. They say I always had great luck but seriously bad timing in life. It is true. As I lay here in my hospital bed waiting for discharge thinking its been a long 5 months, all I can do is dream of the day I can take that chance over again because I love to ride my dirtbike. These things happen in all motor sports where machines are pushed to the limits and I ride fully aware of the risks I take. I love this sport and if I am unable to ride again I will be at every major Am or Pro race I can, living vicariously through the brave souls living their dream as I have been privileged to do for almost 30 years.

Damn, sorry to hear about that.
It's not like two strokes don't malfunction also, but I've heard a lot of people talking about the bogging.
I've never crashed because of a mechanical, although once I came off the track and noticed the bolts on my triple clamp were finger tight!

I've had a couple of close calls with a bog in the jump face. Both times I had a tiny spec of dirt in the float bowl that got sucked into the main jet at wot. Scary stuff.

IMO The Merge is just an adjustable leak jet.... nothing more and is convenient for sure. It does nothing to purge air from the accelerator pump circuit. The factory teams make a modification to the stock cover or as the Factory Kawasaki team for Stewart, Ferry and Preston use the Boyesen Quick Shot. This product along with the R&D Super Bowl are the ONLY products that address the real problem... air in the circuit. There are many other things that have to be right........ there are two very small check valves that must function properly and are easily contaminated by dirt and gum from some of the hgh end fuels, the diaphram must be in good shape, the timing mechanisim must be set properly, the spray coming from the spray nozzle must be pointed correctly, on other than 07-08 Honda FCR it helps a lot to either tie the pump mechinisim together and or replace the spring, stting the float level on the high side helps........ after all that jetting is still critical....... Whew I'm looking forward to fuel injection

Which is a by-product of the new semi-truck set up, where mechanics fly in and out like rockstars and only spend a few hours a week actually working on the race bikes

we use the R&D float bowls on our bikes and they work awesome. I am really suprized that more people haven't caught on to that product, because it really works.
