Very little respect, childish attitudes and some unnecessary smack talking, even in magazines and on the microphone at big events.

Seems like I read in an interview a few years ago that one example of the things that Tony Alessi used to pull with Villopoto was protest them constantly just so they had to tear their bike down.....basically knowing they wouldn't find anything. ........but simply to play games.

Taken from RacerX 5 mins with RV.

Racer X: Ryan, what’s up with you? Are you down off the ledge yet?
Ryan Villopoto: Nah, I’m good. It was a major bummer for me for sure, but now it’s not as much of a bummer for me because my rival Mike Alessi got injured. So now it’s ok and more relaxing and I’m relieved I guess we could say. Honestly, that was the biggest dread for me. The wins and the bonus checks were great for me but watching him win like that just tore me apart. I’m not going to lie here, whenever you have a competitor that gets hurt like he did - although I don’t wish it on anyone - whenever a guy like that gets hurt, you go “Whew, now I can just go out and ride,” and I’m sure the guys are pumped about that.

I'd say he hates him!

I dunno why people are so worried about these rivalrys these days, I was pumped to read that RV said that, who gives a shit if he makes some people angry, this is what we need more of in our sport to get it to the level of the old days. It makes it more exciting for me to know that these riders dont like each other much and are willing to do anything to beat each other, and if that means a take out move, id be pumped to see that!

Thats why is so great when Mike holeshots and RV can come from 10 th place and smoke Mike like a cheap cigar . Im sure it just eats them up over at Camp Alessi , but maybe they have to accept the fact RV stole Mikes hype years ago , skinned it , stuffed it and has it mounted on the wall . Game Over . After GH Mike practically admitted he doesn't have anything for RV when he said he just has to worry about and ride his own race .

But when they carry over into life long hatred such as the Hannah Howerton deal I think that is just over the top.
Its just racing for crying out loud.

Yes, I know the facts, but I will state it this way. In the amateur days Mike was the top dog and no one was close to him until Ryan got faster and faster until he was competing with Mike. Mike and Jeff always rode the same class and they would do some serious tag teaming on Ryan in the back sections of tracks and caused some of
Ryans injuries. I don't think this kind of racing was coming from 13-14 year old boys, but
was what the boys were told to do. That's their history until Mike moved to Pro and RV got to shine his last year or so in Amateurs. Everyone knows what happened when Ryan
went Pro.

Exactly. How long will Mike be resposible for his fathers sins? In my opinion, he has more than paid his dues.

Mike is where he is because of his success as an amateur - but this type of thing happened with Millsaps and others on the way.
At least whatever scores there are to be settled are being decided in the race results instead of in the pits....

I agree with that as long as Mike didn't become what he was created to be. He
seems to have matured and got past that stage in his life, but occasionally the things
he was taught as a kid rears its ugly head. I hope mike heals quickly and these kids
can give us all some awesome racing. 2010 should be a war. 2009 is shaping up to
be the last man standing and some exciting racing.

and does kind of resemble the hannah howerton deal..

but made for good racing

these guys don't have to like each other .
and it wouldn't be unusual to have an active dislike for career racing rival?
it is MX afterall

Wasn't the Alessi - Milsaps rivalry much worse?

I had always heard of Tony spitting on Davi's Dad, Davi's Dad having Tony by the throat...

Sounds like Tony was the problemUnsure

I agree, it always sounds childish when I hear Hannah say that. It's just racing; especially racing that ended so long ago...

It makes me sick thinking about parents who push their kids into what the parents want them to be. Not saying that TA did that but he obviously has no clue when he needs to check himself... then or now.
