i like Gasjer but that guy has gnarly gnarly get offs.. Not a Safe move for him nor the team. unless they want to make it say 3 rounds max
Jason Lawrence.
The smart move as I see it, is move Jett to the 450 and bring in Hymas as the second 250 guy. He did well enough in Futures last year that I think he can handle it.
Pit Row
If Honda had a hard stance on Kenny racing wsx.
Would that be any different for a potential sx only replacement.
All riders that could be a potential replacement are all doing wsx. Savagty, mcelrath, brayton, seely.
Can anyone tell me they're honestly excited to watch Jett in the 250SX class again next year? Whats the point for fans? He's pretty much guaranteed to win, likely sweep it even!
However, with the thought of Jett arriving at A1 on a 450, im sure we'll all be glued to the live timing and TV!
This is how it could play out for Honda..
2023- Chase wins SX championship & outdoor - whilst Jett finds his 450 feet, hitting the podium several times.
2024- Chase Moves to KTM, but Jett wins SX & Outdoor for Honda.
Two years and four championships for Honda?!
*NOTE to those who take everything so literal... I wrote and highlighted in italic "could" , NOT would, NOT will..
But they wont do that, they'll make more money bagging another 250 regional title which should come easy even if he rides around 90% of his ability. The "bad" part is that it's basically a wasted offseason and a racing year. Over 6 months of very little development in the years where there is the most to be gained. Which was DVs point if i recall.
With Kenny now moving on from Honda I think the logical choice is Jett for 2023 SX...in fact, it should be the only choice.
* He is already confirmed 450 MX for 2023.
* He is racing 2022 MXDN on a 450.
* With the timing of Kenny's announcement, Jett has an entire off season to get ready for A1 on a 450.
* Hymas would be a great replacement for Jett.
Of course then you think from Honda's POV.
* Chase is a contender for the 2023 450 title.
* Honda could sweep 250 E/W titles with Jett and Hunter in 2023.
IMO Jett should move up...he started racing 250's at 16 years old and has won 3 titles at currently 19 years old.
He had his fair share of rookie misstakes this winter in SX. We all know he has the speed, but what is the rush to get on a 450? After this winter he will spend his whole carreer on one.
Let him have this winter on a 250, clean up those small misstakes and ease in to the 450 class outdoors next summer.
Will be interesting how they don’t end up being hypocrites here with a replacement that likely races WSX as well, as noted above.
