I've wrenched on pretty much every 85 made (except CR) and riders in our crew have raced the newer YZ, KX & KTM/Husky. If racing anything above beginner there really is no reason to go with any bike other than the Husky/KTM. Yes usually more upfront but so far above the rest in performance and even reliability it's not even a real comparison. Yamaha had a shot with the 19 YZ85 remake and completely blew it. The frame cracks still within 20 hours, paint comes off right away, engine is mediocre. I hate to sound like a fanboy because I'm not we loved our YZ85's when my older boy was on them. However the 18+ KTM 85/105 is just on another level. There are few things that have pissed me off about them considering the cost but overall they are the best 85 bike ever made. Smooth tuneable power with adjustable PV. Suspension is excellent once reworked & decent stock. Making them into big wheel 105's is cake and the kit runs extremely well with very little modification. We have two riders just in our small crew that tried the 19 YZ85 one even had a full Lynx engine built for his. Both are now on KTM/Huskies and much much happier.........
Maybe Lynx doesn't have the right package for that YZ85? Hard to argue with numbers though.

Killing me smalls....
I was so stoked when I heard Yamaha was redoing the YZ85. I was gonna put my youngest on them. I waited as long as I could then bought a 2018 TC85. Three weeks later they released them. I am so glad we didn't go that way now. I have a 19 YZ85 in my shop that a friend bought new on my recomendation thinking for her kid it wold be a better bike. Reliable, a bit smaller. Thing has 30 hours or so & looks like complete crap. Paint cracking off frame everywhere. They bought our '18 TC85 with 100 hours on it instead. Still in better shape than the Yamaha & performs so much better. I've maintained both the same. The other rider is a fast 85b kid that Lynx built an engine for. He hated that bike to the point of almost quitting. After riding one of our TC's they bought a KTM and can't keep him off of it. We also tried a 15 KX85 when he moved off of 65's. Don't get me started on that POS. At least working on the Yamaha's is simple the KX is a nightmare.
Just trying to save you some headache because if your kid is a mid-pack C rider or faster you will probably end up on the KTM/Husky anyway..........

Maybe if you have a local TM dealer who wanna help you out with some discounts, that could be a nice option too. Those bikes are crazy.

W will probably end up on ktm/husky even tho my wallet doesn't want to. I'm going to let him ride all the 65's again next year and see if he wants to change from the Cobra. Depending on which brand he chooses will probably help determine which 85 we go with

I still have 2 rm85 big wheels in the garage one just got rebuilt the other is in prep to become a super mini as a pit bike for me Smile . Have a plan for a custom Aluminium tank to make twin radiators possible.

As for restyle UFO makes a front and rear fender

In Australia they come stock with ufo redesign plastics and pro circuit pipe as pictured above.

Here is a cool kit that I’d love....

Would love to see Suzuki put in some effort I’d sell all my Huskies to have a new Suzuki 2 stroke.

Damn shame that an entry level bike gets more updates than the premier mini MX bike. WTF Suzuki?

I looked them over at a race once. Kinda cool but still a bit janky in areas. I'm sure great bikes though. The thing is, it's nicer to ride something common at times so that if you are at a race & need something there is a good chance someone has a spare............of course that someone is usually me, lol.........We are done with minis now though. My youngest let go of his 18 TC105 with a heavy heart..........now it's all 125's & 250f's from here out......

Looks like it's wearing all the DRZ bodywork. Like the 2nd radiator as well, great looking mini! Anyone know who rides/rode this? Love to see more pics of it

My brother Brock Bennett 211 he was on Bar X team for a minute. He’s on 125 250f where moving to 250f full time but on Huskys now. I will have to look on my computer I should have some more pics of it. Swing arm was longer as well we got moto win at mammoth on it as well, only problem for him was had growth spurt so he was really tall on it compared to the husky and ktm.
