I am considering a bile for off road riding and to use with a timbersled. I've narrowed it down to the KTM 500 EXC, the Husky FE 501-s and the Yamaha WR450. I'd appreciate any input form those doing this.

Those things are absolute engine killers. So the bigger motor the better. It's like riding a bike in the sand without a paddle.

Based on what I have seen from those three bikes I would do the Husky. Good solid platform with E start and fuel injection. I would be a little cautious on the WR450 as I have heard of crank failures on the 2015-2016 models. Another thing to consider is that most of the MX 450s will have more actual power than the 500 or the 501 and this can be felt on the snow for sure.

How are they in deep snow? Like whistler or Interior BC. Can they get to the same places as a snowmobile?

and vice versa. Timber sleds are nimble and do crazy things. 800cc 2 stroke EFI Sleds also do crazy things. they both can do things the other can't. I want 3 of each.

Both Arctic Cat and Polaris are probably releasing snowbikes for 2017. At very least Arctic Cat is.

Polaris now owns Timbersled, but I have no idea what they are woking on.

The Arctic Cat appears to be a Sherco 450 with a skid that ressembles a Timbersled.

Let's say I'm with 4 other guys who are on sleds and we need a big pull up a ridge in whistler, snow is deep and blue bird out. Can a timbers led make the climb? I'm guessing it could make it in a track? Maybe just not breaking trail?

They will only go where its extremely tight compared to a sled. . If its steep and really deep its not going to do what a sled will. They will get you there in kind of an uninspiring way.
I think Arctics rig is a Yeti rear end. Pretty similar to a Timbersled setup. Not sure I like the look of it either or what track options are available.

Make no mistake a decent rider on a sled can run circles around these.
Mine is the Longest track mountain horse and even in our snow which is hero snow once the sun comes out its nothing compared to a good stock sled.

The only time they are nice is in very tight woods where you can zip right through, which ours is pretty rare its ever that tight. Its like riding pit bikes.

Other than that There is nothing like having 160-300 HP of 2 stroke power on tap. These are fun though. As mentioned above...Id do an old Cr500 next time. I just cant stand 4 strokes especially when underpowered.

Thats what power does. Such a difference.

However you can get a sled anywhere if you have any kind of riding skill.

I had thought about getting one for my 500 but it would be underpowered and hard on the engine. Shifting gears would be a pain in the ass too. I will stick with my sled for the snow for now. I think snow bikes need alot more development before i would spend that kind of money.

How do you find the turbo lag to be on your bile? I was chatting with a guy in Revelstoke who had a turbo'ed 500 exc, and he said that the only thing he didn't like was the lag. Said it made it tricky to ride because the power wasn't right there when something unexpected came up. Do you find yourself having to compensate for that?
