F-ing sandbaggers. Seriously...can somebody explain this to me?

Why would anybody want to sandbag, just to win a trophy? Were you not loved as a child and this is the only way for you to get some "self worth"?

I have friends who ride age-group "B" because their health insurance doesn't allow racing for money.

It doesn't stop me from telling them it's time to "move up!" hahaha

Depends on which class you are talking about... For the top guys racing the B class (that sometimes are faster than A guys) I would say most of the time it is because sponsors only offer them limited support in the A class, compared to what they get in the B class. Winning is everything to sponsors and if you have a guy that is eligible to race B and can potentially win, it only makes sense...

WHAT? How can health insurance not allow you to race for money? That makes no sense at all.

I hate the guys in C class that should be in B, Last year, in C class, the top 5-6 guys were 30 seconds ahead of 7-16 place. HMMM you think the promoters would do something about that...

An old gray guy like me who does not race anymore showing up to the track once in a while and still being the fastest guy with a hundred kids there and the dads yelling at thier kids go catch that guy he is old, go faster etc. I seem to get a lot of kids in trouble. I don't want to have a dad pushing his kid to pass me and him getting hurt riding over his head because i am an old guy that likes to keep it taped. P.s. I can go a lot faster, I am just enjoying the time on my bike.Wink Cool

The worst thing for amateur motocross, guys in the C class expecting to get paid, example contingency money, and or sponsorships. Get freaking real trying to figure out what bike to buy based off of contingency pay out. If your not at the pro level what does it matter what ever you put into racing your not going to get it back at the C level, hell at that rate not even in the B level. And I'll agree with Larry on that one, takes no skill to ride one of those. Grow a set and get on a two stroke and see how fast you are.

I sell health insurance for a living and organized contests of speed for money are an exclusion for every company I represent.

The top guys are always 30 seconds ahead of the guys out of the top 5. In the 250 A class there were only 4 or 5 guys withing 30 seconds of the leader.

I race once a year play ride the rest- I ve noticed that the B class is about commitment to racing those guys race in and out every week and to be competetive you typically need to do the same. I race c age group at the ats and can usually place top three- at some point I'll move up but not if I am only racing once a year...what do you think is that Sandbagging?

if you race once a year and get a top 3 position then you are sandbagging.

you have no idea how bad the sandbagging is in the over 40 class!! They have races where you can drop down a class just for their big annual event

The worst thing about am racing isn't getting beat by somebody faster than you.

The worst thing about am racing is all the added bullshit classes. This leads to a 25 moto race order where you get a 4 lap practice, two 4 laps motos and a 16 hour day.

i am an anti-sandbagger. i race only a few times a year and run in the local A class. i probably would struggle to podium in B class but what the hell. at one time, i was that speed. i guess i still am, just not the entire moto. have i bumped down...no. will i? prob not. still waiting to be eligible for the old-man class. then the fun starts. they will have the same goals as myself. Be safe, have fun, win. and in that order.

Fortunately there are options out there.

PS Sand baggers suck...hoping the Mammoth qualifiers this year puts a dent in this practice up on the mountain.

I hear you....days like that you have to ride two classes so you don't forget how to ride during the four to six hour break between motos.

Fortunately out here we have www.remsatmx.com

Practice at 9 AM, long practice, long motos, and usually are done by 3 PM....multiple gates per moto is the only way to go.

2 things come to mind.

C class championships at National level events -

Too many classes in a local race day. Short moto's and long days equate into less riders.

People who bitch about things on message boards about races and classes they are not even involved in.

The only really good one here is TOO MANY CLASSES

I think Rider Surance sells Aetna in NC and they have the pro racing exclusion. The other stuff is accident insurance. Break your back or have a serious injury and it is a great SUPPLEMENTAL insurance but it would not cover a fraction of your bills.

i disagree...

he races a class that is of his level.

if he won by a large margin every time i would say move up, but that is not the picture he painted.

i agree with his logic... c is for beginners and casual riders, b is intermediates and serious competitors moving up.

one thing i miss is the grass roots feeling that i had in the 80's and early 90's.
yes, i know it was even more so in the 70's and earlier, but i was not around then.

The economy seems to be bringing it back though...

Man, to go to a podunck little race in 2002 was like attending a national... kids in huge haulers, less comradeship, new gear every ride, a whole lot of classes...

There are more people racing amateur stuff than pro riders so Rider Surance looks to me like a good plan for a lot of people.

Isn't accident insurance is better than no insurance.

Since you're in the business what is your suggestion regarding what pro racers should do for insurance?
