That's a blast from the past. I had one of those. It's not totally "stock". The original radiator shroud was black. ...but it does look pretty original.

Doesn't side number plate and radiator shroud look like 1984 model?

This is very important stuff. We need to get to the bottom of exactly what year. lol

1984 went red and white. The craigslist listing is an 83....unless someone changed all the plastic out and painted the frame.

Why? because of the cheap plastic covers that everyone was using back in the early 1980s. The forks are stock you just cant see them.

Definitely an 84 radiator shroud. Side panel looks like 84, too.

The 83's had that different shaped rad shroud that was funky shaped it stuck out. The 84 had the better shaped one that didn't go up as high either and tucked in better.

The 84's in the u.s were still yellow funny now I think back. Everyone says kx's dominated I rarely saw them. I saw every year new yz80 through 86 and the 85 n 87 cr80. Only green bikes were a couple kx 60's and a friend had the last gen kdx 80.

Ah....ya got me. The old brain is to blame...

Did a search for 1984 YZ-80s and found that the pic I posted. Guess red/white was non-US in 1984. I knew they changed somewhere around that time.

I guess so. Can tell you nobody was using them in my part of the world.

Thanks for doing all the research and putting that together. Talking about the 80cc class I raced. No biggie. Moving on.

Still shocked since the kids tend to emulate the trends. It'd be like if you told me there were no mullets in your area in the 80s

Not sure where you lived in the early to mid 80's, but here in Texas, Kawasaki's absolutely dominated the 80cc class, especially 83' and 84'. The whole entire starting line was typically nothing but a sea of green. Pretty sure all the big amateur races were the same.
