Just purchased a set of '08 yz250f SSS forks on eBay for my '05 yz125 due to the '05 AOSS forks getting a wobbly fork lug (the brake side). The '08 forks arrived today, and while looking them over, I noticed a crack on the upper tube between the tripe clamps. Is this pretty sketchy?
Going off the clocking of the holeshot device and the Evo decal on the upper tube, seems to indicate this crack would've been indexed facing inboard toward the steering stem, so then presumably not an impact on the surface of the tube here. Furthermore, the sliver of cracked metal seems to be cracked outward rather than toward the interior direction in the forks. Tried to illustrate that with 2 pics of the same view but with different lighting angle.
Thx fellas.

It is for that reason I run several circumferential strips of tape or contact on the fork uppers, and then put the CF protectors (that I've used for more than 20 years now) on my forks. Thus, no direct contact, and, an 'air barrier' for a bit more impact absorption before the CF can hammer into the fork uppers.
The thing is, in the OPs post, he points out that the damage is in the section between the top and bottom clamps. I have seen people run CF Registration / Permit, Red or Green sticker holders at those points on their bike, though, which could account for the damage shown.
Though, I'm never surprised by so many peoples inability to keep surfaces of things, free and clear / clean of nasty crap. All it takes is surface scratching, then use of harsh cleaners, brake fluids 'drips', or just being in a high salt environment.
I hope he gets his money back.
If you got a good deal on the forks and everything else checks out, maybe see if you can get a partial refund from the seller, and just replace the tube.
The Shop
Seller is located in Orlando, but the Evo Industries setting sticker has a 717 phone number, which is Pennsylvania, though I suppose either location could exacerbate corrosion with high humidity.
Just messaged the pics, corrosion info, and strong "do not run these" advice that I received to the seller. I appreciate the input guys. This might've saved my life.
