I’m pretty perplexed myself, John. I think we have to admit that we underestimated how difficult it is to transition from one series to the next. I know it seems like a bike is a bike and a track is a track and the best guy should always win, but it just isn’t that way. Many of the top Euro riders have come over, including Everts, and none of them have won here right away. The two series are different enough that it takes some time to acclimate. When RV announced he was going over there my reaction was no different from any other American: I was out in front of my house in my Old Glory Speedo firing off .38 rounds with one hand and eating a greasy cheeseburger with the other. It’s the American way. I was celebrating before the first gate even dropped because he’s an American, dammit, and that’s what we do—we win. Well, not this time, Kemosabe. Tony Cairoli, Max Nagl, and the Panda have a massive points gap, and unless all three of them suck sand next weekend and blow up…in both motos…RV is out of this. Just like when Napoleon Dynamite’s grandma took a little spill at the sand dunes and broke her coccyx, Ryan Villopoto is going to be feeling the effects of his Larry Loopout moment in Italy. I’m really hoping that doesn’t mean he’ll be as fast as Uncle Rico at the next few rounds, but I don’t know how amazing he's going to be in the deep Belgian sand with a cracked backside. All we can do is support our boy and, if he wins again, bust out the stars-and-stripes Speedo and make some noise.

As for myself as a german, sure I'm happy when Roczen or Nagl are doing well but honestly, if Roc would have lost the title last year, I would've been that upset. And I am pretty sure the same applies for the majority of my fellow countrymen. Can't help it.
I guess America is not part of the world anymore....
And the GP fanboys would say "why" he is already world champ.
But the balls RV had to even go over there shows much more about him than anything.
Whilst, a failed attempt, he made the attempt.
I hope he comes back next year and tries his hand again. I would expect different results.

SInce round one and even some of the pre season videos.....I just wonder in my head if RV was 100% in the game......There wasnt much mention of RV racing GP's then it just came about pretty quickly.... Was the GP's sort of a " hey Ryan, we know you want to retire, but maybe try the GP's out..." type of arrangment with kawasaki? I heard more about RV opting out of his contract and retiring than the GP's before it was announced....
For the record, I didnt think RV would jump across the pond and just whoop everyones ass...i did however think over time, and still do think (had he not been injured obviously) we would see RV close that gap and the 2nd half of the series we would see RV a top the box more often than not....Italy was only round 4 of 17..... but injuries are injuries...and its a bummer we'll never know....Italy was some very close racing so nobody was getting " smoked " by anyone...

no honestly you may have a point. nobody will never ever get that part of history out of any germans head, even though the Führer wasn't even german himself. He was born within spitting distance to Mattighofen (get this!) in Austria. lol
