Any moto photographers have any input on shooting technique. Just curious what shutter speed you tend to use for different shots. Do you worry too much about aperture are just leave the camera is shutter priority? I'm semi new to photography especially with action shots.

If you want sharp photos the higher shutter speed will help you out. By adjusting your aperture, that will give you a more crisp or shallow depth of field. The more shallow your depth the harder to get in focus when the rider is moving. But to me the more shallow you can make it, the more artsy and professional it looks.

3.5 Ap 1/250 shutter speed with a flash. Just have to pan it right.

follow same rules really unless i'm looking for some abstract shot. almost always shooting in custom and constantly adjusting my settings as conditions change. (discaimer - im not a professional, just a hobby shooter).

At Day Events

With plenty of light available, you can use a higher SS, but don't go too high or you won't see much tire spin.
SS: 1000-2000

At Stadium/Night Events
===================
Even in what appears to be a brightly lit stadium, the available light is 6-8 EV below daylight, so select a SS that does a fairly decent job of freezing the motion, yet doesn't jack your ISO so high that your photos are full of noise.
SS: 640-800

All Events
========
C-AF and IS: Off for action shots
S-AF and IS: On for the rest

This thread delivered for me. Mr. Buckley has seen it all. I am just a hobbiest but the tips he gave out helped me so much.

When I was first doing it I found appeture priority to be easier just have to have the angle for proper light. Manual will be your friend in the end. Lean how to use the cameras light meter first.

I like the look of a slow shutter speed of around 250. Even 500 can give you some nice pics
