I remember in the 80's when the Mini O's were HUGE! Mini O's and Ponca were as highly regarded as Loretta's back then but seemed to lose there luster over the years.

Hopefully it's getting back to where it was.

mini o's is still the biggest race of the year (attendance wise) i'm pretty sure.

also, winning titles there still carries a lot of weight.

Sorry I should have mentioned it doesn't seem to get as much press these days as Loretta's. In years past the other events were well covered by the moto media but these days it seems only LL's gets mainstream moto media.

It would be good to see Mini O's getting the press it deserves is what I meant Smile

Regarding press... it certainly doesn't hurt that the family that operates Loretta's also owns and operates one of the most popular motocross magazines in the world.

I've been putting up raw highlight videos up from the SX action last week and will have helmet cams plus highlight videos from SX and MX on MXPTV this week.

Not sure about less press coverage since I saw a huge TV screen playing live video of the day's racing that was also streamed live over the web through iHigh.com, a site that is mainly mainstream that covers regional high school sports and everything in between. I haven't seen live video coverage from Loretta's yet so I think the coverage was a step up all around in Florida.

Do you guys live in a cave?

MXPTV, Motoplayground and The Pickle are all covering it daily.
RacerX has a few posts about the Mini O's SX and since the MX just finished will almost certainly have a wrap up posted.

If you look you can get plenty of info and coverage unless you have some other axe to grind.

Not at all, in fact I would consider myself quite privy to the moto-specific press outlets you mentioned, as well as others who have provided some coverage thus far (e.g. Vurb). No axe here--I enjoy both events equally--just stating the facts and how RacerX has a strategic advantage regarding the reach it has through its magazine and website (100k+ circulation and 8MM+ page views on its website a mo.). With that said, they can not only provide great coverage and vivid photography from Loretta's post hoc, but they can also promote and market it leading up to the event. MCfan was wondering why the Mini O's doesn't get nearly the amount of hype that Loretta's does in spite of its history and rider turnout, so I offered my own observations as a possible consideration for his inquiry--simple as that.

To your point; while all the press outlets you mentioned offer a great collective effort in providing impressions for Mini O's, they are all smaller in scale and are relevant to smaller niche audiences compared to the large reach and frequency of RacerX. Furthermore, RacerX and MXSports leverages relationships developed through its magazine (i.e. advertisers) and its management of the outdoor series respectively, as a way to garner marketing affiliates who essentially advertise the event and help further strengthen the Loretta Lynn's MX brand.

how in the heck did this turn into a LL/Racer X vs Mini O's?

it was a mis understanding in what the guy was trying to say.

racer x post links to vurb and the other amateur web sites during ALL the amateur nationals.

what i do hope: more amateur nationals hire that company to provide a live video feed through the week. (including LL)

the camera people were terrible (lol) but with a little coaching, we could be on to something with that network and the coverage of the amateur nationals. Woohoo

Read what you just wrote and tell me again how you don't have some type of issue with RacerX or MX Sports.

According to your post all other MX news outlets are small and RacerX is bullying.....I'm sorry "leveraging" their position by getting advertisers to somehow pump up an event that is already considered the pinnacle of Am racing.

We had plans of providing some type of live coverage at Loretta's (maybe not the web specifically but have the feed shown at the track at least as a starting point) but nothing came through with it. Hopefully, we can provide it for next year.

The huge screen they had at the Mini O's was a huge plus for the riders and their families. Especially for the MX part of the program as it was almost front and center in the vendor area the last half of the week. The radio show at night was also a very cool addition as well. I think the crew did a good job with the lack of moto experience they had coming in.

Let me give you a little perspective on what I wrote by first saying this... if I were to take a personality test, I would score heavy on the analytical side of the spectrum--it's just how I think. Moreover, I am a marketer and strategic business analyst by trade. I have composed marketing reports specific to motocross, and while words like "leveraging" and "affiliates" is something you might consider jargon, it's just how I talk. With that said, everything I wrote is my observation and without preference (with the exception of me saying I enjoy both events). Moreover, me juxtaposing RacerX and MotoP with variables such as size or scope is more or less fact (i.e. measurable)... and nowhere did I say anything about bullying. I think most of what RacerX does is pretty awesome, especially from a strategic business perspective. Regarding your comment about other mx press outlets being small--well yeah, you're right because they are a niche within a niche (e.g. MotoP relevant to amateur motocross audience), while RacerX has developed the size and scale of being relevant to most all motocross enthusiasts nationwide. If you can't understand that, then oh well.

couldn't agree more with your last sentence.

all in all, this was a MAJOR step in the right direction for the amateur events.

props to Wynn and crew for making it happen.

Did they end up getting a sponsor on board for that to help supplement the cost? I think it was DMXS where Wyn was talking about it costing a pretty penny to get that there. Awesome idea/commitment regardless... love to see events upgrading their infrastructure and increasing value for their racers and spectators.

I agree with you 4mxonly but keep in mind you are arguing with a guy who doesnt attend either of the events being discussed.

Really......I don't attend either event?

So that trip to Tennessee in 2008 was a figment of my imagination?
The 2 trips I made to the Mini o's were just something I dreamed?
Just because I don't live my life through my sons racing like you do doesn't mean I don't attend the events or have perspective on them.

I don't go every year because I save my vacation time for the summer when racing is happening up here.

And what a surprise that you would have an issue with MX Sports.......you're the guy that bitches for 3 months every year about not getting a hook up and the fact that your kid has a birthday that falls late in the year.

I wanted to respond to your post separately from the other one because I may have mis-interpreted your language.

Given what you said about being in Marketing that paragraph takes on a little bit of a different meaning.
I think you make excellent points but it just seemed to me like the subtext was something else.

Seemed like you were giving them crap for having a smart marketing plan......I see that isn't the case from this reply.

So well spoken sir and my apologies for taking it the wrong way.

I figured as much, that's why I took a step back to try to give you a little perspective on what I meant. Unfortunately this place has a way of making it easy for people to misinterpret a point, and then instead of trying to understand each other better, go straight into the shit-slinging (which goes nowhere fast). Thanks for not taking that route, and allowing me to explain myself... and kudos to you and your ability to give it a second look and consider a different line of thinking.

Yeah it is always easy to go the route of flinging poo rather then talking.
It really did read completely differently after knowing your background.....perspective as they say is everything.

At the end of the day it's all about racing so we can't be too far apart.

I think what really got LL to the forefront was when some guys had a Guitar Hero contest at night a few years ago.
