Is the mammoth track as fun as it looks?! I think it's a must race at some point

The track is good, but it is the whole atmosphere and location that is what makes it so cool, more than the track itself. Smile

The track is a must ride. I agree with everything that OW38B said, but I want to put an emphasis on the track. One of the funnest tracks I have ever ridden in my life. The morning practices are amazing as the prep is perfect. Perfect blend of track and scenery.

Track is awesome... Long laptimes, big uphill, rough, just a few jumps, flows well, awesome dirt.... everything you ask for in a track.

I don't think that you would be disappointed if you raced it. The guys who run it are cool as are mot of the regulars. You better be ready to race, it is the sandbagger capitol of CA. That's one of the reasons that those bears mean something.

Are there any big man made, not natural, jumps that might scare off the old vet t-rex's around here?

No...The track is old school moto. It gets super rough and slick. Here is a good Ryno video.

From what I remember, and the last time I was there was in 07, there's only tabletops. You've got 2 good sized ones leading in to the corner before the finish line, another one after you go down the 2nd small downhill, the finish itself, and one small highspeed double after the finish line. There's also a jump over a table in the back part of the track. It was always one of my favorite races to go to and was the only one I really looked forward to. Like others have said, its the atmosphere that makes the place. Go a few days early, rent a downhill bike if you don't have one, and have some fun. It's a good way to acclimate for the elevation as well.

Just remember the start goes left up the hill not right around the tree. Smile

Well ... I will say it.

Like Washougal, it looks like paradise, and if you catch it early in the morning after a grooming it is ... but it turns into a pretty brutal track with so much traffic on it. The hard bones come up and you are fighting for traction slipping off of stuff.

Let's just say when you are sitting on the line for race #35 at the end of the day ... and the water track has just flooded what was already a very rough track .... think of it as opportunity. Cool

The downhill is a great place to make passes ... or drill yourself.

It's rough. It's very narrow in some spots. It doesn't rut up. It's got some bowlish type turns. It's not very jumpy at all.

When you are there, you know you are experiencing something special.

When in Mammoth ... you have to hit The Stove for breakfast. Just don't do it the morning of your race.

Also on the way up #395 from LA you can find all kinds of jerky ( buffalo, elk, boar, etc ) in Bishop or Olancha. Might as well hit Schatts bakery in Bishop too.

Best - early in the morning the track is smooth creamy chocolate cake, there is no funner track anywhere to ride.

Worst - Late into race day two - much like my ex wife, the track has turned from sexy vixen to nasty bitch who will smack you down if you're not paying attention.
