Making a Yamaha turn?

Is there any way to make a Yamaha turn as well as a Suzuki? My son really likes the way the 07 RMZ250 turns, but would rather stay on 2-stroke Yamahas. Just looking for advice. Thanks

Think its doctor D that makes a mount relocation kit that drops the shrouds down.

Not sure if they make it for a 2 stroke.

You can also run the forks up a pinch and run less sag. If your rear end sits a little taller in the turn it puts more weight on the front tire and helps limit that dreaded yami push. This helped my yz some, but still doesn't handle anything like my cr.
Handling is a tit for tat though: agility or stability can't have both

I've spent a ton of money to try and get my 07' yz 250 to turn as well as my friends 07' rm 250, and I have to say it can't be done with aftermarket parts alone, Believe me, I've tried EVERYTHING. The best you're going to do with the YZ is get it too handle about 85% as well as the RM. I use aftermarket 22.5 mm offset triple, and i"ll also run the forks up 8mm in the clamps.I also use larger sprockets, which will shorten the wheel base up a little, 15-53. I've tried the larger footprint 90 series front tires, but they are comprimise at best. I don't like them in the mud.

Move the forks up and run way less sag. Has more to do with changing the rake/trail than moving the weight. But no matter what you do, Yamahas still turn about as easily as a 42" Murray lawn tractor with bald tires. And Zooks turn like slot cars. I just bounce my YZ off of stuff to turn it.

Always been that way.

Raise the forks and soften the compression dampening 2 clicks.

Keep in mind that dependent on the manufacturer, "shortening the wheelbase" doesn't necessarily make a bike turn quicker. Yamis like the rear wheel way back due to their rake it puts more weight down on the front when rear wheel is set back...Wink

I tried that too and the bike didn't like it with the changed offset triple clamps. The bike handled noticably better with the shorter wheel base, and offset clamps. I never noticed any loss in high speed stability, although i do use a Scotts steering stabilizer.

I rode Yamahas my last year as an amateur and I thought that was the best turning bike I have ever rode even my 07 450 turned great

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the only way to get a bike to turn like a RM is to just ride a RM. Looks like we will be going with the RMZ for now. We will still need a School boy 1 bike, so what is the earliest year model RM 125 we should be looking for. I dont see to many around my area any newer than 04 models. Thanks for the help.

I remember an article that Eric Gorr wrote about the RM125 motor; that it was very similar to the KTM 125, and had quite a bit of power potential. Assuming that porting is allowed in the class you're racing, he may be a good person to chat with.

I had e-mailed Gorr this morning. Basically he just said to stay away from the 2004 RM125, but the others were all good bikes. Porting is allowed in the School Boy class.

your yamaha will never turn like a zook.......different frame, chassis, etc.............all that buzz about offsets, lowering brackets, etc are very subtle changes.....yamahas are built to be stable and they are

Man, you guys are high-tech.

Gorr was making a fortune off of 4-strokes and at one time was turning down business because parts suppliers could not keep up to the speed they were at.
I only know that because I was involved in the 2004 CRF fiasco valve dealios.

I guess things have changed.

FYI: There will never be a Yami made that will turn as tite as my 2006 RM250.
