Just a tidbit from Millville...

We had a track building contest on the beach by the creek. Mike agreed to be one of the judges with my daughter. From the sign up building I could see between 200 and 300 people in attendance to this little fun deal..

There were about 15 building teams being judged.

Mike showed up early to sign autographs, spoke with each and every one of the track building teams "kids" in detail. Asking questions about flow, telling them what he liked about their track and so on. Then he stayed after to sign more autographs. Conservatively he spent well over 2 hours just hanging out with kids and core mx fans.

That kind of thing just doesn't happen anymore...

Never been a huge fan of Mike but this is awesome. It sounds like something Pastrana would do. It's good to know that some riders still remember where they come from and that the fans still come first.

Wow.... That is CLASSY! As a father.... I want to say THANK YOU to Mike Alessi for taking time out. That is great.

I am a Mike Alessi fan now!

That sounds pretty dang cool right there! Good for Mike for taking the time to do something like that.

Any pics of these little tracks?

As a longtime huge Ivan Tedesco fan, I always rooted against MA800 after his stunt at Glen Helen so many years ago. Two years ago when the show the Great Outdoors started playing and the Alessi family was heavily featured, I started to realize why Mike was the way he was and I began to feel sorry for him. This guy has been under incredible pressure from his father since he was knee high. He was simply a product of his environment. He's been humbled now that his family has burned most of their bridges and he's on the only team that would give him a ride and he's earning it. He keeps his head down, is respectful in podium interviews, and has simply started to mature into a man. This story reaffirms that he is past the "Believe the Hype" days, and is becoming an asset to the sport. I respect the hell out of him now and root for him every race to get that win. I really hope he can find his way back to Yoshimura Suzuki, and can get back to winning moto's. MA800, you have earned yourself big props in my book and I'm proud of what you've become brother. I hope life just keeps getting better for you. I think you are well on your way.

I have to agree with most of the sentiment here. I was never a huge MA fan in the past, but recently I have been rooting for him. His podium interviews seem so much more humble and "real." Its not the usual glossing over of the questions and recitation of the sponsors - you can see the emotion in him and he always remembers to thank the fans. For once I actually look forward to what he has to say in his podium interviews.

I've always liked Mike.

The drama that seems to surround him..... not so much.

This is so cool! Way to go Mike! We need more riders to be involved in things like this. I realize they are constantly signing autographs, and their sponsors are pulling and tugging at them constantly, but these types of things mean alot more to the fans.

Nice, MA800! You are really a "professional" racer.

It sucks how Tony's antics are all most people think of when Mike's name is mentioned. If Mike Mike keeps it up, everyone will forget about his father being a goofy asshole.

Mike is the only guy I don't mute when they make the podium. You can see he really cares, you can actually see how hard he is trying out on the track to get faster and put it to Dungey. More so than any other rider. Became a proper fan in the sx series with his marked improvement and speed. Hope he clinches second in . Nice bonus for him.

I was down there walking through the area and I have to say the one I dug the most was the one with the haulers and the Barbie Doll with a 30 second board ! ! ! That was AWESOME ! ! !

The kids were VERY creative, I saw a pool in the middle of one some had some branches they made into "palm trees".

Lots of Monster cans as well.

It was laid out like an archeological dig 5ft squares next to each other.

Memo to all other National promoters..... do this. It was very cool.

Props to Mike, he seemed to be having a good time with it as well.

I didn't get any pics but it was well worth the walk from our parking spot.

Very impressive. I don't know what has changed, but he has really impressed me this season with his attitude. I like his podium interviews, he seems really genuine and more relaxed these days, and hearing this makes me smile. Good job Mike.

qft.

his last podium speech was so enjoyable. He actually kind of rambled a bit and just spoke from the heart and it was SO much more endearing than.........."yeah i was able to get the start, that was huge- just gotta give it up to xxx, xxxx, xxx, xxx, xxxx, xxxxx, xxxx, xxxx, falcon tires, my thumbtack sponsor and all the boys from the corn nuts crew"

xxxx- was done on purpose. That's what i hear when rider's breathlessly ramble through their sponsor list.

sounds like charlie brown's teacher to me.

Mike had a great podium speech.....He said a lot of what I think he needs to do. Be patient and slowly build up the confidence. He's got the #2 position locked in right now and that puts several factory bikes consistently behind him.

If you really knew Tony you wouldn't think he is a goofy a hole. Tony just wants whats best for his family. Good job Mike! And now that Jeff has been riding is he gonna race any nationals?

Most people that don't like Mike haven't met him. I guess you can say that about most people who don't like anybody in particular.

I was thoroughly impressed with his Millville podium interview. Matured a lot since the 'screw all of you, we're going to europe' days.

Just good to see! I would have been so pumped back in the day if a pro did that. Its the simple things that mean the most sometimes for the kids.

No doubt but I think we can say that about a lot of the racers, posters, etc...
