Read something (maybe here) that said Eric Kehoe was on the sidelines and hadn't signed with Team Honda...or anybody else as a team manager for 2013? What's up with that?

Seeing as all the team Honda members are on short term contract it's not surprising. I believe Shane Drew is next in line for the job if it became available, but I would be surprised if they let Mr. Kehoe get away.

Maybe they're trying to change up management..kinda like how sport coaches get fired if they don't produce.

I like Kehoe. Heck I have even been to his parents house when we were kids. That being said, I am surprised he lasted this long. Not trying to be mean. I am just saying the results have not been there. Back in the day 3 rd place was not good enough to stay at Honda. Just ask Johnny O. 2013 should be a great year for Honda...

Honda is run by accountants, not by the passion of a KTM or Ducati.

With the resources they have, the should have never let MC go, RC go, and they should have had JS7 for his prime. Only thing that will save them is Barcia this year, then he will go to someone that will pay him.

Honda has a pay line they will not cross, so it doesn't really matter who the manager is if you don't hire the top of the pyramid guys, and then back up the armored truck to keep them.

Can you say with 100% certainty just exactly who american hondas motorcycle division is run by? Surely you must be able to in order to open your mouth and make that kind of statement?

You are mistaking passion for emotion and speaking out of your ass.

Letting the King of SX and The GOAT go speaks for itself.

Classy, if I could speak out my ass, I'd move to America and be on America's Got Talent. Does insulting people from a keyboard make you feel like a tough guy?

Just readimg this month's DR, someone asks RC why Honda let him go. Said he doesn't kmow, ask them.

How many SX championships have they won since then?

They don't even have a presence in Canadian MX, thank goodness for Factory KTM, Leading Edge Kawi and Bobby K. on the Yamaha, not cost effective enough for Honda. Oh, I guess T-Dag's rides a Honda out of a little trailer even I could buy,.

It seems to me that when riders start seriously looking other places Honda lets them go just like JGR Racing has said in the past that if you actively speak to another team you no longer want to be their so why would they want you.

Now this is only a guess and my opinion.

yea and just like in most professional sports, the managers make very little difference. Roger didnt win until he got Ricky and Ryan.

Who picked Ryan for the pro team, and who pushed for Ricky?

it's the liability lawyers that call the shots to the round table in Japan.
Last time Honda won an MX title in Canada, Honda couldn't even have a rep at the track that day, very sad.

I agree that Kehoe has been around forever, and maybe it's time for some freshness in the form of a new manager for Team Honda if they ever want to be the powerhouse that they were back in the 80's. I respect the guy, since he spent a lot of years actually in the saddle, and has at least stayed with Honda a looooong time...but young riders might benefit from some new, young ideas. Just sayin'...

Sincerly believe Kehoe brings alot to the table!! Friendly, knowledgeable, professional are just a few items I can think of right away! Worked a little with him at Suzuki and can't say enough about his abilities!! Really don't think they'll let him get away!!

HAHA, "got" Ryan? He personally pulled him from the B class and people questioned him.. and you call that "getting" someone? He is the reason Dungey is where he is at today, IMO.

Yea he got that one right, no doubt but some of that credit has to go to RC who basically trained and molded Dungey in the early part of his career. Roger wasn't so on point with Brian Grey or Ben Riddle was he? He has wiffed more than he has hit a HR like most managers out there and that is/was my point. Riders/Players make great mgr's. Joe Torre was a below .500 manager until he went to the Yankees. Roger can take credit for Dungey but he also has the own the rest as well.

Roger can take SOME credit for Dungey, but Cole Gress and Ryan himself had to push Roger to even take a look at him. If anyone should get credit for Ryan Dungey coming from nowhere, its Cole Gress who took him, saw the potential in him and molded him. Ryan walked up to Roger with Gress and told him he would ride for free if he had to and Roger had no idea who he was. And RC? Hell, RC didn't even know who he was until he showed up in the factory rig.

Whats funny is how people think Dungey came out of nowhere, anyone that knew amatuer racing then knew Dungey was going to be fast.

When you don't have a RC, Pastrana, Stewart, Alessi, or Cianciarulo type amateur career, you pretty much do come from no where.

Wow.

Let's see...

RC wasn't Shit until he rode a Honda.
Honda's got a Salary "Line the Sand".
AHM makes it's own decisions.
AHM should hire Cole Gress.
American Moto-Team Mgmt should learn from Pro-Stick-n-Ball sports.

Yup.

It's not just the Silly-Season: it's the Stupid Season.

Jimmy & Gibby nailed this one.

funny how Honda gets singled out...Kawasaki let RC go to Honda...so should everyone be bagging them too??? KTM let MC go to suzuki (or was it Yamaha i cant remember)...but it think i made my point, some riders want out no matter the offer and some factories would rather their riders are focused on winning not dollars....go figure

Manager to Ownership - I'd like to try to recruct one of the 3 top guys.

Ownership - we will give you top 6 $

Manager - WTF?

I pick on Honda because they have the resources, but are more interested in selling Civic's in box stores. Plus they do nothing in Canada for our big show.

Cost/benefit, cost/benefit.

Anyway, the "evil empire" can do whatever they want. A few decades ago, the gate was red....now it's multi-colored. If they are happy, it's their business.

I think the "Evil Empire" is in business to make a profit. Motocross is definitely not a profit center in their business model(at least not a big enough one to make drastic financial moves to retain talent) and my guess is that it will continue to slip over the years. Honda is not blinded by passion. (Thank God KTM is though) Honda is driven by profit (the way any business that wants to stay in business needs to be)

I love Mx as much as the next guy but we as a sport and industry have a lot of forces going against us.

1) Enviro's hate, HATE us and there are more enviro minded people out there than there are us, they have money (lots of it) and they are very educated and organized. They all want to save the f-in world. (hypocrisy at it's finest) More riding areas will close, not open, in the future. Did I mention they Hate us and feel the need to rid the world of us devils.
2) The sport gets more expensive and dollar gets weaker every 15 minutes (compounding losses/expense)
3) Health insurance is only going to get more expensive
4) Injuries getting bigger and more frequent (compounding expenses see line 3)
5) Long time enthusiasts are not passing the sport on to their next generation (biggest danger to the sport) because of the items listed above.
6) Format, who wants to go sit at the track for 8 hours and get in 10 laps waiting around for your moto's all day. (Why I don't race much anymore)
7) The average American kid would rather get a new iphone or laptop or video game than a new CR 125 or whatever model, most kids now don't even own a tool box or know how to do anything with one.

The sport along with all these other outside forces is evolving itself right into extinction.( When I say extinction I mean as a thriving business model that multi national corporations such as Honda will want to invest heavily in) Motocross is becoming even more of a niche sport than it was, which will result in it becoming much smaller with less money to go around in the future, think top guys Making less. (Does anyone know if Dungey ,Barcia and Tomac etc..make less than their predecessors RC,Stewart,McGrath etc..?)

One of the problems is that Motocross is becoming a rich mans sport and the average rich guy (that has lots of disposable income) doesn't like to risk their kids lives or their own. Blue collar or middle class guys (less affluent/ less educated/less disposable income, the backbone of motocross) on the other hand are happy to lay it all out there for the passion and glory but unfortunately can't afford to stay in the game anymore(themselves or their kids). They can afford to buy several model year old bikes or rebuild old two strokes and casually participate but they are not going to continue to support the grass roots of the "expert amateur" scene.

I do however believe that it will always exist as a sub culture I know I will never quit riding and practicing. But as a thriving industry and professional racing scene it's definitely not where I would invest any of my money.

The think tank at Honda knows exactly what they are doing, they are probably thinking a little farther down the line than the average Joe Moto enthusiast. Think 15-30 year business projection models, not who's going to kick ass at A-1 this January and take home the Monster girl with the big tits.
