All the haters please read!
Quote: DeCoster’s own words….”All of these riders have good personalities that will let them get along just fine, not try to impress anybody too much and do something stupid,” DeCoster said. “When you race in this event, the fact that you represent your country, a lot of people are going to come up to them and remind them about the history of the team and all the wins and how important it is to keep the thing going. It puts the pressure on, so the main thing for them is to ride within their abilities.”

JS7’s assessment is 100% right on the money.

On Unadilla:
From what I've been told by some high ups that head other major teams, James was in fact fast, very fast. The bike and him became a dangerous issue as things rolled on.
Why risk it, smart if you ask me.

I caught that too. But personally thought it was a little harsh.

James isn't a "show-boat" rider. His results certainly prove it.

But, I ain't Roger DeCoster. He certainly was making a statement with that statement (if that makes sense!) I just don't think I agree with it.

But hell, he's proven his manager skills over and over and over and over and over..... again.

James has laid back before at the MXdN instead of making it about him. Why do you think he let Everts beat him?

Without question Roger is to be respected.
That's a given.
However, his statement is more than clear.
It was clearly directed at the #7.
Clear as day!
Clear as day!

Yes, and it happens the world over every day in all walks of life.

So Ozzy let me ask you this.
Is 7 weeks not enough time for a team to get a bike ready to ride an outdoor national?
Is 7 weeks again not enough time for a rider with Aldon Baker on the payroll to get in shape to do a 30+2x2? Wink

If he couldn't do it in 7 weeks, why would anyone think he would be ready by MXDN.

Heck, I guess if it's gonna get personal, James' best option is to make him eat those words...

Beat his boy hard in the last few rounds of the outdoors, and mission accomplished.

Won't accomplish squat for this MXdN, but will make a significant point that will reverberate throughout the motocross community.

James, that's you're only recourse. Light the fire buddy. Show 'em what you're made of.

That was ACTUALLY a time in his career where he did do what decoster was describing....he did that for the team. SO he has surprassed being a hero for the sake of the team before.....thanks for reminding me of that.

Still dont think he deserved to go......he got some HEAT from people's comments and there were some very valid points. SX only and that team is destroying his fanbase, true he has a lot of fans they are more becoming people that know him from his show and red bull things ....the probably don't know anything about how good he was on a 125.

Point is he needs to get back to what got him where he is and race or he will become a sideshow that races exhibition races for start money. I think SX only is allowing his to regress a little and his competition to progress a little closing the once amazing gap he had.

Currently Ryan Dungey is the man.
I've watched his rise to the top and respect it, regardless of who's in or who's out.
You have to be there to win at the end of the day, and Ryan and his great team have done that. Going the distance is more than half the battle.
Has James & Co. had enough time to prepare?
Has his trainer had enough time?
It's easy to be the judge jury and executioner from the sidelines.
I'm not taking anything away from any.
But being a winner and being professional at the same time is a juggling act at times.
For me, all the prep, testing ,etc., are not the same as racing.
SX, personally is much much easier to develop to..........
Whether I think he's ready or not isn't the issue here to me.
Personally I think he was smart. He showed his speed, etc., early on, but even through testing, having a ruff Unadilla track at your disposal is hard to find. So again, I think he was smart to not risk injury by stopping, period!
To label James a quitter, is ones opinion, yet I label him being smart.
To me he clearly showed his potential and now it's just a matter of honing it in.
Fitness wise, you can only do so much from the outside, but James himself says the wrist is good, so racing at speed with his peers is what's best at this point.
Will he arrive, count on it.
Am I against Andrew Short?
Certainly not, however, James was told what he was told.
We need to send our absolute best.
In Canard you have that.
In Dungey you have that.
Both have won, and won big!
Andrew on the other hand, as good as he appears, isn't always what I would label our best shot.
I'm sure soon enough we'll witness James and his Yamaha becoming 1.
Again, it's about picking from our best available, and James was told he had a shot.
When you read Roger's statement, it's simple again to me what happened here.
People will certainly have their views, opinions, and favorites, yet Roger voiced his thoughts loud and clear.
You can say things without saying directly what your saying as was said here.
Personally, having put my own foot in my mouth several times, it's easy to do sometimes and for "The Man" it couldn't have been any more obvious.
James was bypassed for all the wrong reasons.
I wish Ryan, Andrew, and Trey our Team USA all the best.Smile

Ozzy its pretty obvious to see your bias here. I get it you want Stewart. However maybe you should take a look at a few things....

DeCoster is the Team Manager and as such is EXPECTED TO WIN.

DeCoster needs to have a team he can count on.

DeCoster knows that if Stewart pulls a Unadilla out of his ass he's screwed.

So he is going to pick the team that will give him the best chance to win.

Stewart does not deserve to be on the MxDN Team

Stewart has shown when the equipment is off or things get rough he falters or quits.

Stewart has not competed outdoors for nearly 2 years.

Stewart didn't finish the 2010 SX series.

Stewart shows up for his first outdoor race in nearly 2 years, UNPREPARED.

Stewart's team shows up for a an outdoor race, UNPREPARED.

Stewart's major motivation for racing the MxDN is publicity not love of the sport or country.

Andrew Short has earned his spot on the team through his efforts.

Andrew Short has sweat his ass off all summer showing he does ride outdoors.

Why should DeCoster bring a distraction like Stewart?

What has Stewart done for MOTOCROSS lately?

In short, DeCoster can win without Stewart so why reward him with the pick? Answer: He did't.

Last time I looked, Short wasn't close to Stewart in the only moto Stewart rode - and that was on a bike that was obviously way off, and Short has been racing all year. And that was after Stewart went down once. If Stewart rode four nationals and had 6 more weeks before the Des Nations, it would be just like it always has been since Stewart has been riding - the only guy who could consistently beat him outdoors was RC.

If your plan is to sell the idea that Short can beat Stewart, man to man, race after race, then good luck to you. You'll need it. If you just like Short better, then I'm with you there.

The bottom line is, if Stewart wasn't going to be considered, they could have called him or Brooks and told them. How'd you like to be Brooks right now? Any guesses how much it costs to send that whole team to four Nationals? And for what? So four promoters can make money? That's the most Mickey Mouse deal I've seen since that team got Ryan Hughes over to Europe to race and then didn't pay him.

-Factor in Shorty's hometown track experience and it is a no brainer. Barring any major crashes or mechanicals and I have more confidence in this team than others in the past that won anyways. We are fine. Scrubba will get over it.

Very good post WORCSRacer. Shorty and Honda also do very well at Thunder Valley, they will be prepared.
And Ozzy, I just have one question, how do you know James was told what he was told? Are you taking his word as gospel because he is the almighty JBS? GuyB posted on Thursday of last week that the Des Nations team would be announced before the motos. Now, if he knew, I am sure James and Larry knew.
Lastly, let's not forget that James has turned down Team USA before, I know I haven't.

I'm not answering for Ozzy, but why else would Brooks spend all that money and commit all that time to going to a track that Stewart absolutely hates, in a location about as far from Southern California as you can get and still be in America? And you could look back two or three weeks and it was common knowledge that Stewart was going to Unadilla in the hope that he'd get on the Des Nations team. It was no secret. If Decoster wasn't going to take him regardless of how he rode - and that was obviously why he named the team before the start of the first 450 moto - then all he had to do was pick up the phone and call Stewart or Brooks and save them a lot of time, money and risk. So why didn't he? I guess you'd have to ask whoever benefits from Stewart riding the last four nationals...

And that was after Stewart went down once. Who the fuck cares! They count 2 motos and Stewart cried No Mas after one moto and 2 laps. This is pure speculation. I.E. at the beginning of the year, specifically like Hangtown, Reed woulda been the man to beat... DeCoster wanted to name the team now and he picked the guys he wanted.

How'd you like to be Brooks right now? Any guesses how much it costs to send that whole team to four Nationals? And for what? Well since teams thrive on coverage and James got the lions share of the coverage (before he pulled out) they are doing what a Professional Race Team is supposed to do, grab media. So four promoters can make money? Um Sam, if the promotors don't make money they won't put on races. If they don't put on races who needs a guy like James Stewart. Sad to say but the promotors need to make a living or the stars have no place to shine. That's the most Mickey Mouse deal I've seen since that team got Ryan Hughes over to Europe to race and then didn't pay him. Not even close to an accurate analogy.

It's OVER. The team has been picked. Cheer the boys on and get on with your life. JS is NOT on the Team. Good, bad, indifferent. Get over it.

What were the JS ride days all about then?
Because companies want to sponsor guys that people like. I'm not saying it's all calculated and manipulative, but when a rider - especially Stewart - says "for the fans", I just think, "Yeah, have a nice day, too."

So it's OK with you if either some or all of the promoters of the last four nationals and Decoster intentionally misled Brooks and Stewart to get them to the races? I'm not saying they did, I'm saying it seem to be OK with you. It's OK for Brooks to pay $200K or so for races that he wouldn't have gone to otherwise, so the promoters can make money? Somehow I think if that was your money and your time, you'd see it differently.

As far as comparing Stewart to Short in riding ability, give it up. Even Andrew Short knows he can't beat James Stewart man to man, race after race. That's not taking anything away from Short, and I'm a big fan of his (and as much as I admire his riding, I'm far from a James Stewart fan). There's no shame in being beaten by Stewart - everyone has been beaten by Stewart.

But James said specifically in an interview leading up the Unadilla round that he was going out to be there "for the fans"....he said those exact words.

Are you saying that James was not being truthful but instead being a saleman and trying to stoke interest for his gear sponsors product and reality show?

Wouldn't that be lying just to make money?

Cant he be racing for numerous reasons?

Wanting to for himself.
For the fans.
For a chance to earn a shot on MXDN Team.
For his sponsors that would like to see him race.
Etc...

If we all knew a week ago when they would announce the team members... How could they not know?

I honestly think DeCoster saw that CRAP reality show and wanted nothing to do with it. The MXDN was going to be made about Stewart because of it. He wanted all three riders to feel a part of it and respect it. Not have Sorby clowning the pit area and James throwing a fake dramatic fit or even one of those real ones he throws every now and again for the show. Dungey, Canard and Short will all truly appreciate and respect the event. They will work well as a team.

Something that also got me thinking... If it weren't for the permanent number system... what number would JS be next year? No where near top 20 is the answer. How can a guy race 3 supercross races and 1 moto and then expect to be selected for the MXDN?

I don't think that they were lied to. Do I think that a highly placed cheerleader in the American MX scene pumped his chances up, probably. Did James help the ratings and the attendance? Only a couple of people can answer that one. How much money do you think Brooks gave back to SMBI after not racing or even putting anyone on Stewarts bike? I think he owed this and a whole lot more to the SMBI and the rest of his sponsors. So to answer your question, if I had put up several million dollars to put a race team on the track and gotten the return that SMBI did I would be quite happy that they got back to the 'Dilla to race.

Stewart vs Shorty, the thing is Sam that man to man, RACE AFTER RACE Short is there and Stewart isn't which is kinda the point and rational behind the selection...

It's all lying until the gate drops. That's what's good about motocross.
