"INSIDE MOTOCROSS" Magazine Question

11/25/2011 12:23pm Edited Date/Time 5/3/2017 10:16pm
Hey, I was wondering if someone, namely Tony Blazier, had one of the issues of this magazine that they could scan into a pdf and post it up somewhere to see? Or maybe just a good article from an issue? I remember having an issue back in the day, but that's the extent of my memories. I was reading the new RacerX List and they of course mentioned this in the list of deceased mx magazines.

Just got me thinking that I'd love to see what all of the legendary words concerning this magazine are all about!

I've got two full sets of them, what a great magazine that was. More than enough time has passed that someone needs to take another stab at it. VMX Magazine out of Australia puts together a top quality mag in the same style but only features the older bikes. Anyone with an appreciation of vintage bikes and such should check out VMX.

I do still have a few copies of #2 for sale (Thanks Donn) I think I'll have to relist them on ebay. It is the best MX mag ever and I'm very proud to say that I had a bunch of photos in them.

This topic made me unload my cabinet,in the landing at the top of the stairs(see the dust where they were sitting on top of each other). Fran Kuhn was kind enough to let me help out on "Inside Motocross". Thanks Fran. I won't ever forget.

My collection (hope I don't get in trouble with Davey)
One set, Hardback (black hardcover with "Inside Motocross" embossed on front, still in plastic
One set, Regular cover, still in plastic
One set, Notepad, #1 issue, still in plastic
One complete set, and random single issues
Also have one set in the office at work.

Too bad the best mag of all time only made it to issue #4

The old saying "You build it and they will buy it" Does not work in Motocross

When I published SuperMoto Racer Magazine, the first thing I did before my first issue was to pull out a copy of Inside Motocross for inspiration and ideas. SMR made it 18 issues and lasted for 6 years. Yet I too realize that you can make a mag look too good and cost way too much to print and it does not always mean it will be a money maker.

Long live Inside Motocross, it is crazy people still talk about the mag after all of these years.

Yeah, look at the binding on the boxed set. Last issue Oct./Dec. 1993. Guess I'm old.

Some of the top racers today were not even born yet when that mag went under. You are old! Most of the kids today would call that magazine vintage with old race bikes and a bunch of now crusty ex racers that live on pain killers.

You're right. I just took two Ibuprofen a couple hours ago. But I always like the new bikes.

So I guess I'm not even sure what the focus of the magazine was?? Was it just a photo magazine?

It was more a "Lifestyle" magazine. In-depth articles about riders and events. SX, MX and GP Motocross, with a little splash of Technical and new product info. No bike tests, no product evaluations. The photography and writing were by invitation, as well as the advertising. Maybe others can add a more honest evaluation, as I was too close to see any flaws.

The note pads were little #1 magazine covers on a small notepad. You guys have inspired me to go see if I can get the 8 foot by 4 foot poster, framed, of that same magazine cover, that adorned the wall at the publishers for years (until they moved).

I don't think they went under more like Jim just decided not to do them...politics back then.

Yes some politics - yet when politics have to do with advertising/ paying for print and production costs - it is not easy building a magazine if other companies might not advertise because of the politics - no matter how cool it is. Just look at the FMF Exhaust and FMF Energy Drink thing this year - almost 20 years later and the same politics.

Still a great mag - I wish they would digitize the old issues so everyone that never got a chance to see it can take a look

I do have all 4 and would be happy to scan them. The single coolest MX mag of all time IMO. The only problem is their large format which makes it a bit harder to fit on a regular scanner. i'll see what I can do.

Sorry to bump an old post, but does anyone have issue #3 they would be willing $$$ to part with? I have 2 copies of issue #2 if that helps any.

Thanks in advance.

I have a very rare miss print, the issue with the factory bikes, mine has two Kawasaki fold out pics. I have often wondered how many are out there as i have mentioned it a bunch of times and no one has had the same problem.

Sure with i kept it in better shape, but they got read the shit out of back in the day by all my friends. Still cool to think maybe i have one of a kind.
