Why not let GoPro upload footage of the whole race like MX Sports? It only helps gain you and your sponsors more publicity...

Better yet, with the new GoPro, why not let them stream live during the race?!?! How coold would it be to watch the race on TV and watch from the camera of your favorite rider(s) as well. Kinda like NASCAR in car and bumpercams?

This is a brilliant Idea! I don't have any idea what it would cost from an equipment/hardware standpoint but I think it would be cool as hell! How about two way cameras on top of the riders helmets with one lens facing forward and the other rearward. Would be awesome to go back and forth from spectator view to rider view during a battle or replay.

I suggested this about 2 years back.

Getting the tech to work right was the issue then. Very difficult and expensive.

Maybe more feasible now? It has to be on the agenda/wish list by now. I'd expect to see it at some point in the coming seasons. Patience.

I for one, cant wait to be able to pick which riders helmet cam I want to watch the race from. A lot of us here have lesser known friends that make the night show but dont get any camera time.

Jabroni... what do you mean "getting the tech right"? We see it done in other forms of motorsport all the time so it led me to believe it was really just about the cost.

When this concept was first suggested here, I cant recall who it was that shot it down, but it was someone well respected on the board.

They basically said the idea had already been suggested and tested but the live streaming of 20 helmet cams in such a small area was not reliable enough yet to sell a subscription service to like with what you see on F1 and NASCRAP. Mounting the proper tech to a car is a lot easier than to a rider on a dirtbike.

Take into heavy consideration that this was quite a while ago. That's why I said that it is probably more doable these days and isnt far off from being a reality. I would guess its on the drawing board for a upcoming season. Like you said, the only thing probably holding it back at this point is cost. My point of my original post was to say they are aware of this and I believe it has been tested and will be re-visited at some point.

On a similar note, I suggested last year in an e-mail to DC about the possibility of using a remote control drone to chase the lead pack during the start/race of a national. There are some very sophisticated companies that are able to provide helicopter cam quality footage at a fraction of the cost. It was a concept I was going to push for the World Enduro Championships in 2013 had I stayed involved with that format of racing. I felt it really could have made things more TV friendly since those events are so remote and hard to put onto live TV.

Just imagine Juha Salminen with his own GPS guided hover drone following him through an entire lap of a EWC race. The drone basically flys itself and streams live footage back to the producers that can put the feed up on the net in real time. The camera's can be set to auto stay fixated on the rider and all you really need is a pilot handling the zoom/focus. Altitude can be pre-set and the drone can just chase him everywhere.

Even if they couldn't handle 20 cameras, at least put them on the top 5 or 10 in points.
