My guess would be preparing for his wedding and taking some much needed and well deserved time off. The guy has been a SX/MX machine for the last 5-6 years.

I asked KTM's PR person after people here asked why he wasn't there.

Not supposed to be that big a deal. More of a minor ding.

I guess my point to "possibly" is, why the feck don't we ever hear about this stuff... I don't get the secrecy bullshit to MX... It looks worse to me that for some reason he just didn't seem to charge like a lunatic, like you'd expect someone to do.

Like Bagget being quiet about his wrist. Like RV being quiet about his Knee. Like James a billion times. It's just dumb.

It's so much easier and better for the media and fans if the riders come out and say, hey, i'm struggling with this, but we're doing the best we can–they get media, people know they're not just sucking or not putting forth the effort, and in this case, Dungey gets a pass because he was carrying an injury or something. I just don't get it.

Most riders would prefer to say nothing, than to drop any hint about them being injured. Half the people complain that they don't hear anything, and everyone else will pile on and say, "He's using it as an excuse." It's sort of a no-win for them.

Yeah but as it is he gets he sux or he choked by all the hater idiots. I personally think he did great and the results were reflective of an amazing french team and a lot of bad luck on USA's behalf... but if there is an injury. Let's hear about it!

The real fans want to know what's up.

It's a lose lose situation to be in.

If he claims injury and loses its an excuse. If he claims injury and wins everyone down plays the injury and doubts it even existed in the first place.

Refer to Chad Reed, tells everyone bout Epstein Barr, ppl say he's a pussy and doesn't wanna race. Fights through stomach or knee issues and everyone calls him washed up.

Yeah but the alternative is worse for me. I'd rather be honest and tell people what's up than hide your shit and have to listen to dickheads... plus as a sport the option of not telling anyone basically means speculation and even less is all there is to talk about!

I think if Dungey injured his wrist in that crash with Faciotti in the MXdN 3rd moto, that puts his performance in a completely different light and makes no sense at all to not disclose it.

Crash is right. The secretive nature of a "public" sport like mx is rather strange. It seems to be completely backwards from most pro sports in which their athletes readily and quickly disclose any injuries.

Perhaps their teams forbid them from doing so? Having no excuses forces the rider to be more accountable for their results. They ride injured all the time and maybe they would feel less pressure to perform if they started the race with a built-in excuse. This might be why we don't hear about the injuries until after the fact and they have become irrelevant.

Yeah it's completely ridiculous.

If you rolled your ankle in football or blew out your acl, and finished, you'd be a tough guy.

In MX, if you say anything about any injury, it's an issue. It's fucking weird!

Why? I just wrote why. Cause without it he and anyone in the same boat just gets piled on with terms like they suck, choke artist blah blah blah.

Fuck we don't even get an interview saying we just didn't get it done, let alone a valid reason.

Mx might be the most unprofessionally handled sport in the world PR wise. It's actually pathetic.

Post a reply to: Dungey ???
