Tomac is not anywhere near Dungeys level and at this point there is no use in comparing them. Dungey may never be recognized for speed like Stewart, RC or Villopoto but he was incredibly consistent at top 3's his entire career. At this point Tomac is so inconsistent you never know what you will get....fastest in the world one week and bottom ten the next

Exactly I made this post pretty much saying Marv is only one moto behind. And tomac has had mechanicals.
Maybe Tomac was hurting yesterday and his crew did not let anyone know
Who knows, but is he pretty consistent at being inconsistent. I kind of like the fact that he can step it up and beat the hell out of everyone but just not all the time. Gives the other guys hope! Dungey just used to push them all to the breaking point, or retirement, trying to beat him.

We saw how fast they could go... We never saw how fast Dungey could ride... I bet it would have been as fast or faster than those 3 guys. Dungey is and will go down as one of the best that ever was.
Anybody that thinks otherwise is a mouthbreathing cumchuggling dickass.

Tomac has literally never beaten Dungey for a championship. Anyone who even tries to make the argument that Tomac is "better" is just plain stupid.

Agreed. I think Dungey showed glimpses of his speed, like round 2 when he led a crazed Roczen for a handful of laps then stuck with him the rest of the race while they destroyed the rest of the field, or Daytona I bet he was giving it his all that race. He wasn't the fastest speed wise but was damn close, a lot closer than most probably think, he just didn't need to push it to his limit often, his championships and bank account support that
I feel like Dungey will always be remembered but Tomac will always be talked about. Not trying to knock Dungey at all but due to his race craft (one of the most solid ever) he doesn't have those many of those 'holy shit' moments that leave people talking for years to come.
Ryan Dungey had a ton of memorable moments. But the one that stands out to me was 2nd Moto Southwick '11 coming from the way way back to 7th was more than commendable.

X2 great person and champion. But some fans wanna see the idiot riders who can't stay outa trouble or act like douchebags .
I don't know, I am an Eli fan, but everyone is right about his consistency. I know he has his dad in his corner, but the Decoster comment was valid. One thing Aldon does is work on the mental aspect. I feel like Eli would be unstoppable if he could jive with someone like an Aldon or Decoster. Someone in his corner like that. No disrespect to his dad or anything. I think the father son relationship can only benefit so much.
That Dungey was able to stay top 3 AND mostly avoid injury may be "boring" for spectators. But what incredible skill and finesse that sort of riding requires. He had both the physical and mental games covered. I was always a fan, but I can appreciate him even more now that he's gone and the field lacks any rider at his level of consistency and skill.

I guess you don't follow the sport, and anyone who says "race craft" is a tool

Which is weird to me to hear sometimes even though his riding isn't ragged/on the edge. Southwick starting almost a lap down, shifting with his hand over jumps in vegas, the dunge got it done.
I can just see Dungey in an upcoming MX/SX ad... "Miss Me Yet?" Eventually even the idiots will figure out just how good he was.

That gap could as well be around 15
