What is the rule for that can a Team Yamaha guy push Bubba's bike for him and help get him going? The replay shows a guy in a blue shirt holding his bike and pushing it off? The announcer guy said his name was Brooks? Is that legal?

I've seen riders involved in first turn incidents receive assistance many times without being penalized.

Pretty sure if it is a safety issue/track blocking deal there is no penalty.

Can someone find that in the AMA rule book about whats permitted on outside help. I know assistance is allowed in a first turn pileup, and to what degree cause he did definately did hold james bike up while he kicked it to life. Is that actually legal?

Think someone should be writing a letter to the AMA. Any takers?

Each team has at least one spotter in the 1st turn, assistance is allowed. Not sure how far they can take it, but its been that way for a long time.

It was legal. They didnt help with starting the bike. Yes they helped by holding him up, but Stewart did the kicking.

The safety issue was letting him continue after having his head run over & thinking Hill's bike was his. Glad he came through OK, but I expected another big crash after he got going - looked pretty confused.

That would be silly (and poor sportsmanship) to try to DQ Bubba. 11 points down and the season just got exciting. I still think Bubba will take the title.

11. If a rider stops for any reason during an event, he must
restart without any outside assistance. However, if a rider
falls, blocking the course and endangering other riders, he
may receive help or have his machine pushed off the
course. An attempt to help under any other situation will
result in the rider’s disqualification.

pretty sure if it were reed receiving outside assistance, a head would be on a platter... maybe even a 25 point penalty

Probably but no ama intervention is needed or wanted whether it is Jlaw's short cut or James assistance.

Just let the boys race, when the AMA get involved it all turns to shit.

i.e. lead in the fuel crap.

Well how would they make any money if they have to promote their golden boy as the fastest rider on the planet, instead he is a cheat? Its all economics.

Legal to push his bike yes. To hold it so james can stand on both pegs and try kick it over, No. Theres a massive difference between trying to start a bike with one leg on the ground as opposed to starting it with both feet on the pegs.

There is an area set up at the first turn for each rider to have one team member there.
What the hell do you think they are there for to take pictures?
In the riders meeting the AMA has stated its ok to assist to an extent in the event of a first turn pileup.
Did someone else kick the bike? NO
When whoever was pushing him the bikes was already running.
So like i said stop praying for more Free Points with some BS argument.

Hell since they stopped the race last weekend for the Pro Circuit boys
im going to protest because they didnt stop this one. Ohh wait Reed probably
wouldnt have won and this makes the points more exciting,
and maybe more people will watch.
Heyy i think im on to something!! Hahahahahah

The original post was "Did james recieve outside assistance?"

It's one thing to pick up bikes and clear the track, but holding his bike up so he can start it is recieving assistance don't you think.

Dude do you know how many times this has been done? And i have never herd of anyone getting any type of penalty for this on a start. These people are pros and they know what they can and cant do. Do you really think if they thought they would get some sort of point altering penalty that he would have done that? Like you said use some logic.
Jlaw cutting the track was more flagrant than this. And if he didnt cut the track he wouldnt have had that lead. Maybe if it was someone else with some Balls they wouldnt have just bitched over a said here you go Chad im a fan Go Chad Go!!!

remember the mob that formed last year when reed went off the track and re-entered, not gaining any ground whatsoever, then pulled to a minute lead and dnf'd the race? even though he dnf'd people were still asking for him to be wrung up the tree branch.
