Once the sport goes electric...I'm out. No sound, no exhaust smell...no excitement. Might as well take up drone racing. Yawn. I believe electric will kill the sport....along with the pols who hate us noisy/polluting or not.

Let alone the 60-80 hp electric bikes are going to cause more injuries and deaths. 4-stroke 450s are already too powerful in the hands of the average rider....read: everyone but the pro's.

I could see a day when it is electric bikes, 2 strokes like we have today, and 4 strokes relegated to air cooled play bikes and dual sports. It would also not surprise me if electric bikes never take off at the pro level due to the lack of excitement (sound) or due to battery technology that allows 30+2 for pros not ready yet.

A new battery technology that triples power density will be needed before there are viable EMX bikes using current race formats is the bottom line.

Two strokes throw big portions of their fuel out the exhaust unburnt and have a very dirty constant loss lubrication system that makes them disreputable and very difficult to market as a premium product.
I don't expect to see the far more efficient and better to ride 4 strokes go anywhere.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, when they do take over, you/your generation (And mine) wont be the target market. So "Im out' carries very little weight.

There are kids out there riding Staycyc bikes now who will never know an 'ICE' bike. and so, they'll never miss it.

You and I....? well, we'll be dead or close to it.

Why do you think that with electric there will be "No excitement"? Theres plenty of examples of racing which is either electric or no engine at all which is super exciting. Some of you guys have very closed minds.

To what racing do you refer? To me, the electric based racing I have seen just bores me.

Most kids quit riding when it comes time to buy their own bikes. I just turned 30 and only know a few guys who still ride from when I was a young hippy.

Nah...not a threat. Just a fact. The sport will have deviated too far from what it was for my tastes. I'm not quite that old yet....so I expect to see the day when the ICE is put in it's grave thru "feel good" legislation. It is coming. Especially for a "non-essential" polluting/noisy sport. You are correct, I'm not the market to purchase....but I am the market as a fan.

Why do I "think" there will be no excitement. I already know it won't be exciting (to me) for the reasons I mentioned. There is no substitute for the visceral smell and sound of our sport. I've watched videos of the e-mx bikes...they are soulless to me and completely boring. The skill to ride is replaced with electronics. That said....4 strokes are less exciting than 2 strokes in my opinion.


Once noisy and polluting motorcycles have been "neutralized....they'll ramp up the attacks due to land, plant and animal destruction in the name of the greater good. This is already underway...it is a battle that has been waged for decades....and the other side is winning.

I always bought my own bikes..... mom and dad said, you want a motorcycle you gotta earn it. I worked around the neighborhood when I was 12 years old. Made bank as a kid. Wink

....but once I was an adult and I got into the workplace, owning dirtbikes was forgotten. Before then...I always swore I would never quit riding....but I did. Took me 20 years to get back in the saddle again.

I started working at a bike shop when I was 12 so I could afford to replace valves in my 04 CRF250. If you hippies seen the guys now that I used to race with, you would all make your kids get a job. At least make little Johnny wash his damn bike.
