I posted this in a thread about BB4's suspension and it got me wondering what the situations really is. Hopefully someone can clarify it for me....

The rule in the 250 class states a $7,175 retail price cap for suspension. How can Pro Circuit run A-kits and charge 10k + for them retail?

That price is for suspension only. I've been working with a rider that got a PC set up for $8800, but he paid extra for the green tubes($1k) and also the cost of the clamps($800).

I think it's been updated recently. I want to say we're in the low 8,000s now, but I could be wrong. I definitely know it's not 10k though. I believe that PC's kit with gold tubes are on the limit. With tax, triple clamps, and optional turqoise tubes it breaks $10,000 though. Other options include a full linkage for some models and a wider set of axle lugs and axle for KXF models.

Ok that makes sense.... The coatings don't contribute to the cost. They really must be charging the max for the kit parts and then tacking on the coatings/etc to the 8,000 price max

Spring or Air? I've seen a few receipts from the Air sets and they were a bit higher than that. I have a quote around here somewhere that had them at around $8,000 without the optional coating or clamps. The spring sets were more in the lower $7,000 range.

Does the guy carry a pro license? I've always wondered if it's legal to have a higher price for the public, as long as you sell the kits to an AMA card carrier at the limit price. Since that's who the rule revolves around.

Yes, just got it and they thought the A-kit would give him the best opportunity to take the next step and have been thoroughly disappointed.

I believe they can do wherever they want for the public, but if it's an AMA pro it has a price cap.

I think there have been more fork-setting-test-sessions in the last 2 years than in the previous two decades.

The air fork is a work in progress for sure!

It's the AMA rule book.Grinning

Enforcement is optional depending on who's involved and which of the Japanese factories threatens to pull their team from the series.

Or they just ignore it totally like they have for over 40 years.

Unless they recently started selling them the single function triple air fork that the PC team was running is not what they have been selling.

And only on the 250. The 450s can run 40K forks if they want, but I think you know that.
