So l am downsizing from my 2018 yz450f after breaking some more bones on only my second hard crash in the 60 hours I have been riding/racing it.

I transferred the following from my 450 with no modifications: Prototype NEKEN SFS clamps, Protaper XPS levers, Protaper Carmichael bend Fuzion Handlebars, D’Cor grippper seat, Acerbis: upper fork protection, frame guards, Raptor front number plate and side plates. Plus a Protaper aluminum throttle tube with bearing.

I downloaded/copied both TP 250f map and Keefer Aggressive map into my PowerTuner app.

I weigh 160lbs. However, I know guys ripping on this bike from 180-210 with no problems.

I suggest putting in the 450 springs, but if you don’t be sure not to go below 20-25 mm of static sag. It may feel soft, but it will still handle tremendously.

FYI if you purchase a 2019 yz250f, it will not come with preloaded maps. One has to load maps from the PowerTuner app.

Yes I will have the right springs for my weight. Ok Thanks about the mapping.

MilestoneMX was a victim of the wind. I ixnayed today’s riding. Hopefully PerrisMX Saturday, probably look to be at LACR Sunday. “Plans in sand.”

Bummer about Milestone. Weekend should be good anywhere though. I'd meet you on Sunday at LACR, but I'll be on my way home from Disneyland haha

Couldn’t ride long before pain. Going to try again tomorrow at MilestoneMX in the morning. Then a bit more at Glen Helen Sunday. There is improvement daily in areas of healing. I’m going to try the preloaded hard hitting map on the app. I’ve read good things on it for bottom to mid response, it might make things a bit easier.

I have about 5 hours now and have settled on some good engine and suspension settings. Especially the engine as the suspension is still breaking in. Having spent 2017 on a Husky fc250, I feel like the yz is a comparable bike (though I had my doubts thru 4 hours of setup).

Yeah, my ‘18 450 is still in my family. My favorite map is the bottom one from the first post. I also ran Keefer’s map and the Loamy Hard hitting map. I prefer the hard hitting map over Keefer ‘s. Note that there aren’t any maps loaded on the bike from Yamaha. One has to upload them from the app. (See pic/owners manual) what they mean -by the same- is it’s all zeros.

Suspension is a bitch, takes way too long to break in, I’m still running full soft compression to speed the process up. I have found the good rebound settings though.

I found my base settings for sure now. Suspension much better after 6 hours.

I was surprised to find out that guys are riding these bikes with factory ecu settings of blank. A buddy asked me to hide him through the process of uploading maps, he was thrilled after his first moto with a map installed (after 3 hours of riding/racing on his new bike already).

Friday is gonna be rain out for them I’m pretty sure. Otherwise usually that’s where I am. Desert tracks this weekend. I am going to ditch these god awful Bridgestone tires that came on my bike and am going to drop a tooth in the rear. At 160lbs I can pull third gear starts on dirt, so I’m curious as to how the engine pulls with this small gearing change. I’ll be at Glen Helen a lot in January/February. Hit me up. Text 7609633206

So I got to ride my bike today with a couple changes. I tried out a 49t rest sprocket and a 110/90-19 rear tire. In back to back motos with the stock and mod I ended up 2 seconds/avg a lap faster. Although another variable was the mod set of tires are Pirellis, I am sure they made a difference as they are better than the stock Bridgestone. I had zero problem with the 49t, in fact it feels better suited to the power of the bike with Yamaha Motors map.

Sick! I love riding glen helen and none of the other guys we ride with like riding there... so I don't hardly get to ride there anymore... I have a rule of never going to the track on my own, always go with somebody I know.

When you switched to the 49t, were you able to use the stock chain length or did you have to shorten it?

Stock length, no problem.

How did you like the 110/90 tire? I just put a 110 MX33 on and the total diameter difference is 1 inch taller than the 100 Bridgestone. That's gonna gear it a bit taller plus you put the 49t on. I bought a 49t to try also since the engine is plenty strong enough to pull it, but not sure if both changes may be too much. I like the idea of a longer winded 2nd gear or maybe put a 51t on and use 3rd gear mostly.

I don't get to test it out until Friday and would appreciate some feedback
